Firmware 4.3 - "all players now ...can use Spotify Connect..."
Posted by: gert on 29 June 2015
"...all players now support the higher resolution BBC Radio HLS format, can use Spotify Connect in multiroom mode and benefit from a host of minor bug fixes. "
does this include the uniti 1 without the streaming hardware upgrade?
Will I dare to upgrade my uniti 1 after bricking it the last time? Who is trying a uniti 1 upgrade first?
I have updated and have feelings it sounds better (NDX). But maybe it is "just" psychoacoustic effect that I expect improvement and think I hear it ?
We had the same "feeling" with the beta testing, more so with the last rev before the 4.3 release.
My Status after updated to 4.3:
Qute 24/192:
1) clock is correct again (although NO offset can be chosen despite being this option being mentioned on the display but hey: ist works).
NAC-N272:
1) clock is correct again (although NO offset can be chosen despite being this option being mentioned on the display but hey: ist works).
2) Mute by pressing the illuminated device logo works again.
So far: no issues and two annoyances solved.
Update successful on my NDX... followed the very clear instructions to the letter and all went fine.... I just had everything crossed that we wouldn't have a power cut in the middle of the process!
SQ looks better but after upgrade my iOS app is slower, often stuck for 2 seconds and then move again. It is the same even after iPad restart
Agreed on the SQ, can't really detect any issues with iPad control here.

Try uninstalling then reinstalling the Naim App. Depending on how you restart the iPad, nothing may be changing with a restart.
"The HDX delivers convenience without compromise. The world’s first audiophile hard disk music player, it was also our first step into digital music delivery – and today, several years after its launch, it still sets the performance standards in its class. Invest in an HDX and you’re buying more than just a single point of access for your digitally stored music collection. "
Given this is Naim's description of my HDX, does that mean HDX owners will be getting this update, and indeed the Spotify one?
Steve
Steve,
The UnitiServe / HDX / NS0x are rippers / servers / hard disc players and therefore we will not be adding Spotify to the UnitiServe / HDX / NS0x in the same way that we will not be adding ripping to the Uniti / UnitiLite - the functionality isn't appropriate to the product.
Best Regards
Phil Harris
Sorry Phil, your going to have to explain "functionality isn't appropriate to the product" given the quote i posted in my original posting highlighting phrases such as :
* The HDX delivers convenience without compromise
* Invest in an HDX and you’re buying more than just a single point of access for your digitally stored music collection.
And needless to say I agree with John, in that we are being ignored.

Will I delete also playlists by reinstalling?
In Germany the HDX now costs €7.998,00, yes, that's right €7.998,00!
Internet radio but no music services? Not appropriate?
You must be having a laugh Phil.
Either Naim don't want to add services because the company wants to sell more streamers or Naim is technically not able to offer them on the server platforms. Either way this is unacceptable for current and, more importantly, future customers.
I am sorry but the HDX really is the most overpriced product in the Naim portfolio.
A product only for the most insecure and unsure newcomers to distributed audio.
Has this update rectified the problem with the radio switching on randomly? Or must we still switch to a different input?
Anyone?
Will my NDX be connected with or by blue tooth? My hardware says "3D"
If yes, how can i turn it on and what will be the naim? (i guess NDX)
I totally agree on the HDX etc. I was hoping to install a Naimnet system with Control4 but Naim seemed to have given up on them. The URL docent work anymore and I was informed by Naim that there is no Control4/AMX etc support anymore

I bought my HDX about 4 years ago. Naim offered - and I wanted an all Naim solution to replace my CDX2.
Had Naim discontinued it I would not have expected anything other than maintenance updates but given the current state of the market it seems unacceptable (in my opinion) to continue to market it as a one stop shop when in fact it is clearly falling behind the other products Naim offer.
If Naim has no intention of progressing the platform then maybe they should consider discontinuing it sooner rather than later so that at least today's potential customers do get lasting value for money from their purchase rather than feeling disappointed and let down.

I read those two bullet points and want to know why the HDX doesn't make my morning coffee or give me oral sex. Both would be highly convenient and provide more than a single point of access for my music.

+1 Trust your ears, it's not just you.
I amlistening to music I know very well and it is really much better. Better bass and I can hear now more details esp. electric guitars.. good job Naim :-)

Mine have survived the last couple of updates, so hopefully you'll be OK. Do you have more than one iOS device you can use the app with? If so, you can effectively back them up by saving them from one device to the other, just in case.

Reset Naim app solved my troubles :-) And playlists kept

Not a copy of my face right now :-)
The HDX is a "hard disc player." It is not offered as a "network player" such as NDS, NDX.
Completed the update with no problems. SQ does seem a fraction up, especially on Spotify, but it may be my imagination.

Assuming you've still got the 172, I don't think SQ should have changed, as it hasn't got the DAC chip which is affected by this update. You never know though, could be some other kind of magic involved.
I'm afraid we like to believe that this firmware upgrade will improve SQ, but let's ask Phil.
Phil Harris,
1. Will downloading Firmware 4.3 have any impact on sound quality when playing existing flac/wav/oggs/mp3 files on existing NDX/NDS/272 etc?
2. As noted before, Naim clients are confused by the different formatting of firmware on the device and the app: On the devices, the Firmware version is shown as 4.2.00 or 4.3.00, while on the Naim app the same version is shown as 4.02.000 or 4.03.000.
Can you please rectify this to avoid confusion and misunderstanding?
Regards
