itunes 12.2/BeatsRadio/muso

Posted by: jon h on 30 June 2015

if you upgrade to latest OSX and get itunes 12.2, then you will find the new Apple "Beats 1" streaming radio station if you sign up to the free three months trial (I assume it comes with that, I did anyway)

You will notice that the Airplay icon in itunes disappears if you select this. You can only play through local computer speakers. I was listening to my own stuff in itunes to Muso, and went to Beats 1 -- and the sound came from the local computer speakers and the Airplay icon disappeared in iTunes

This is a bug, and its nothing to do with Naim or muso. It is bug in itunes 12.2. So dont panic.

There is a workaround if you want to stream Apple radio to muso (or any other Airplay target):

controlclick on the volume icon at the top of the display, and choose the muso from the drop downlist of destinations. This will force all audio output from the computer to be routed to the muso directly via airplay.

I loaded the new Music App last night on to my iPad and am reasonably underwhelmed so far. The app that creates music lists for you to 'enjoy' is crude to say the least and is much less efficient or even usable than Spotify's Discoveries. Another annoying 'feature' is that certain apps, The Times and Facebook will kill the Music stone dead every time. I don't know if this is inherent to my iPad alone as that was carried over from iTunes. Today, I will try to compare the output from Spotify's with Apple Music. it also appears that The Beatles have not yet joined Apple's party. Don't know about other artists.

There's no problem with this on iPhone, the Airplay symbol is there. I'm being underwhelmed in style on my Superuniti via Airport Express.

Jon, I couldn't get your workaround to work (on MacbookPro), maybe I'm misunderstanding you but if I control click the volume slider, there's no dropdown list.

I've tried fn click, ctrl click, alt click, cmd click, every click I could think of, and it won't work for me! Not that I'm overly concerned, as I'm not sure I'll be using it too much....but it's bugging me now that I can't make it work.

Aaaah, that icon! Thanks Jon, I got it in the end. In case anyone else wants to know, I had to go to System preferences > Output  and check 'Show volume in menu bar' to display the little speaker icon in the menu bar.
