Bert,

Thanks for your enthousiastic and detailed report of what seems to have been an excellent edition of the North Sea Jazz Festival.

Will publish tomorrow a more extensive review of today. But a quick thing, Rudresh was great as Branford was, Melody had some sparkling moments - Lionel was a good closure to the festival...... I am looking forward to next years festival....

Yes this is the type of festival you want to experience every year. Do get your tickets on time, I missed the festival last year due to trying to buy too late...

So the Sunday started off with Rudresh Mahanteappa. What a thunderstorm this concert was. He was playing from his last album and it was so good... Besides him all players except the pianist where pure masters of the trade. The best bass solo, the best trumpet solo of the weekend I all heard it during this concert.

So as other concerts this day - I stayed from the beginning to the end.

The next concert in the row was as special, Avishai Cohen on trumpet.... Just imagine trumpet, drums and bass...... But so incredibly captivating what was going on on stage. Sometimes less is more. I was a bit skeptical before the concert as I knew his albums, but was doubting if this would come across live, and it indeed did...amazing concert....

After Avashai Cohen I saw the Branford Marsalis Quartet. As expected a very high quality set, with a couple of highlights. What is also interesting is that all the artists in this band are on a high level.... The additional bonus was a surprise appearance of Jack DeJohnette during the encore.

Then I had a shout look at Emeli Sande. A for me new artist, but a very interesting performance - enjoyable...

Then a very good but also strange concert. Melody Gardot. She indeed has a super voice. The highlight for me of the concert was an acoustic version two guitars of Baby I am Fool

The evening ended with Lionel Richie for me. As expect a top entertainer so very enjoyable. While the sound is not the best at such a big stage...

so so overall North Sea Jazz was again of a very high quality. Every day I had some memorable concert and a range of good concerts. I will definitely go again next year......

until il that I might visit a smaller daughter festival in Eindhoven in November....

Gary , you also need physical stamina for such a festival by the way. It sounds easy, just listening to music. But as you are doing it for almost 7 hours at a stretch in a live setting, you get very tired. And especially the first day when I also drove before in this case 8 hours to get there, it's tough.

But I like it so much - that's not a big deal....
