Sample rate

When transcoding flac > wav what is the best sample rate to use ?.
44,48,88,96 etc ?.
Cheers scott
Scott it should be best to match the same encoding rate of the original file. You want to transcode, not re sample. Transcoding lossless to lossless is bit perfect, re sampling isn't.
Most transcoders I am familiar with such as Asset and MinimServer will not re sample when transcoding unless you specifically tell them to.

I am less than a week into minimserver and transcoding flac > wav.
Reading through the user manual and info on the net I see you can up sample to 24 bit using flac:wav24 ( some users reporting the benefits).
The manual goes on to say you can change the sample rate by using, let's say,
Flac:wav24;96.
I was curious if this could improve sq in any way.

Scott, it's a small point, but going from 16 bit to 24 bit you are effectively re sampling rather than up sampling. Up sampling refers to increasing the sample rate or sample frequency.. ie going 44.1kHz to 96kHz.
Anyway in my view there is very unlikely to be benefit in letting the media server do this, best let the DAC handle any conversion it needs to do.
By all means try it, and if you prefer it fine, but I think this less likely with a quality DAC.

Dear All,
May be it is not the best place to ask such a question but:
Is there any difference in sound quality between file FLAC transcoded to WAV by Minimserver and WAVE directly ripped from CD. I am asking because o have around 500 CD ripped to FLAC 192 and I can rip to WAVE 96 or 192 (but no change in the sound quality detected). WAVE from Minimserver better that originally ripped and sent from NAS to NDX?
I'd say stick to the sample rate at which the file was encoded. But you are not physically altering the source file so there's no harm in trying to see what it sounds like to you. Minimserver will by default stay with the "native" rate unless you instruct to use a different rate.
Thanks for the replys and clarification.
