Jon Vickers RIP

A very distinctive singer.

I was lucky enough to hear him sing Tristan at Covent Garden on 7^th June 1978 (I still have the programme), I was also unlucky to chose an evening when he had a throat infection & so did not sing during the 3^rd act! He sounded pretty good to me in the first two acts though.

He did make a fine recording of Tristan with Karajan & a wonderful Peter Grimes with Colin Davis.
