Newtwork issue for ASUS RT-N10U

Hi All, I have an ASUS RT-AC66U connected to an ASUS RT-N10U (as advised elsewhere on this forum) in Repeater mode which in turn connects to an HDX-SSD. When doing a speedtest off the RT-AC66U I achieve ~66-68 Mbps but when I test off the RT-N10U I achieve ~20-25 (less than half). I have substitued the RT-N10U for a TL-WA850RE (Wi-Fi Range Extender + LAN port) and get similar results. Whilst this appears to be fine even for HQ music I later anticipate streaming 4K and for which I'll need 30-50 Mbps. I know a direct cable from the RT-AC66U to the HDX location (also where the AV kit is located) would be preferable but that's easier said than done as they are on opposite sdies of the house. Any ideas or guidance would be very welcome.

802.11ac tends to have a shorter range on the 5.2-5.7 GHz band, so it might be worth considering a closed extender (single extended client on a MAC-restricted, hidden SSID network), possibly on the 2.4 GHz band if all of your other devices can be made to use 802.11n on the 5.2-5.7 GHz band.

Asus used to make an extender product like this about six or seven years ago; I remember this being made available to consumer electronics OEMs for this very purpose e.g., Vudu Wireless Bridge Kit).

Thank you David for your reply, I think I need to do some research (or throw a cable in)

Hungryhalibut, I believe this is a red gecko but if there's an answer in the photo I can't see it :-)
