Firmware update - stalled?

Posted by: Hugh Craig on 17 July 2015

Hi

I am in the process of updating the firmware on my ND5XS.

All was going well until I reached the final stage with the ND5 displaying "Streamer Update" and nearly an hour on it hasn't changed.

Is this normal or will I need to abort And try again?

Thanks

Hugh

It's not as intended (updates do not take nearly an hour).  Either your laptop went to sleep / stopped serving the update, or something is hanging with the ND5.  These things are generally pretty resilient; if it were me I would just start over again from the beginning.

Make sure that your laptop is set to NOT go to sleep.

Has your computer got a network connection? That's how the streamer board gets updated, the usb part is for the Pre-amp/DAC section only.

Hugh, I trust you have connected your Naim device and update machine together via your network switch such as a Netgear?

Took a deep breath, pressed abort and tried again.

worked fine second time - very relieved to see the large success tick!

Thanks all.

Good stuff

BTW, as we have discovered from a recent posting from Naim the devices all have secure bootstrap code.. So if you do brick it, the worse it should be is the device will remain in an upgrade initiation mode.. until you start a new upgrade and it ultimately successfully completes.
