Unitiserve external HD
Posted by: STJ on 18 July 2015
i have a lot of music on an external HD connected to the Unitiserve via USB. All good except when an album is transferred to the HD and then later changed the Unitiserve on
y shows the original album and not the changed version. A check shows the Had gas been updated. Why does the Unitiserve not show the update?
You probably need to rescan the drive.
It's a while since I had a Serve, but from memory you can rescan the various music stores via the DTC. Your post is not entirely clear on what you are doing: I was trying to work out what had gas was supposed to be.
… and did you figure it out (I might be wrong but seems quite obvious).
nothing wrong with your typing skills. It was perfectly understandable. It's a pity I can't help you since I have never owned Serve. How about consulting the manual? If you don't have it it can be found from Naim main web site.
All I can think is that you try rescanning the drive.
That said, I don't think adding a USB drive is at all ideal with the Serve, which is designed to have 'overflow' albums on a NAS, which the Serve will then scan.
"Note: Locally connected devices are re-scanned every time UnitiServe-SSD starts up."
You could try to restart the Serve and see if that helps.
Or just unplug the drive and reconnect it, it will rescan it.
In Desktop Client you can go into the 'tools' section and find 'Music Repositories', within that you can find 'USB Devices'. Click on the drive you want to rescan and hit disconnect, unplug the drive and then hit delete. This will force a complete rescan once the drive is reconnected.
G'day
Thanks for all the advice. NAIM pointed out to me that a USB powered drive was a no, no and USB drives were generally noisy and not recommende. Therefore the drive is out. Buying a NAS.
i have tried all the suggestions with no luck. Seems the Uniti has some form of memory. As an exercise I cleared the USB drive completely and reloaded the music. Seems to have done the job. But that is the end of the USB drive and the Uniti.
likewise just set up my WD My Cloud NAS, busy moving files out of my Unitiserve which seemed to be on its last legs (it was ripping CDs but not visibly storing music despite around 25% drive still free). Anyway after a few panic gor IT to move music but the metadata is all getting screwed up when pulling up on the SuperUniti. It's only when I pull up 'all track' that I get to see what's been moved over - all in a long long mixed up track arrangement - only pictures coming up along the tracks.. is there a way of aligning the metadata to show as it does on Naim or do I regret not buying a more expensive NAS?
