Rattle that lock...

New David Gilmour album out in September

I suspect there will be a few purchases by members...

And again, the exploding sausage gets used in a manner that completely baffles me. I simply have no clue as to what it means.

That's because you're foreign. Innit.

Jamie,

Great news I hadn't heard of, so thanks for your post. As a big fan of Gilmour's stylings, I'll rattle that lock; question for me being CD or vinyl? I'll buy post-release after first sampling and evaluating measures of quality between the two formats. Gilmour's first two albums on vinyl are quite the sonic treat for me. We'll see what his present day music and vinyl pressing quality have to offer.

I am not a blind buy type of guy for him, but I will have a serious listening in....

Just listened to tile track, and not very impressed, reminds me of Eric Cs work when he is in "nice" music mode.

Probably won't buy CD or worry about not having tickets.

He's playing Brighton now Howard. September 5th.

I thought that graemlin was the invisible man stepping on a dog turd (and I used to work in small part of cricklewood)

The title track is indeed very insipid, the kind of thing we've come to expect from DG these days, sadly. I am going to three London shows (one of them with Denis A of this forum) and the Brighton gig, and I have pre-ordered the CD/Blu-ray and vinyl sets so I must be a masochist/foolish optimist.

Time for a graemlin or three perhaps:

Yeah I'd spotted that, but I'll pass.

Interesting thoughts. I YouTubed the title track, liked it, and was particularly impressed with DG's leads. Bluesy yet surgical. Tough for me to find fault, though the song was a bit mellow. I expect (hope) some upbeat tracks will be included on the album.

The single sounds pretty anodyne. The fire seems to have gone out.

And of course the recording/mastering will be optimised for lo-fi, mp3 player mass-market consumption. Ergo; pants.

Anodyne. Wasn't that often the role of DG's leads in his former group?

Comfortably Numb comes to mind .

I'll wait to hear more before presuming any judgement.

It will indeed be interesting to hear what the rest of the album delivers.

The audio of the title track on YouTube gives us a good idea of the recording/mastering quality.

I'm not so sure that'll be the case. DG etc does seem to care about his public.

I really hope you're right Mike. It would make a refreshing change with a new release. 'The Endless River' was nothing special in terms of mastering.

I love 'The Ghosts of Pripyat' by Steve Rothery. Have you heard that low-fidelity crime?

I'll be downloading this on the 18th in 24 bit... Will do the rounds on the trio of usual purchase sites to see which one has seen sense and not tried to rip me off

There's been a teaser released of the album's first track "5 AM". Teaser to be sure, it's just 38 seconds long. The leads are sweet, ethereal, and perhaps bluesy. Evocative of the WYWH album?
