iRadio or rather isometimesradio

Had a Superuniti with blutooth and spotify (£3650) new version for over 6 months now. It just cuts out every now and then with 'no network' coming up in the display. I have tried it fixed and wifi, with nothing else connected, running direct off the Virgin Superhub 2 (150mb download 10 up), and also with Superhub in modem mode with an Apple Time capsule connected with fixed and wifi connections off that. Also with different settings ie firewall low/off/other settings changed etc etc.

I have tested this over the last 2 months. When I say tested, I also mean tested against my £300 Pioneer internet hifi.

The results are :-

Pioneer cut outs             :     0  that's a NIL

Naim Superuniti cut outs   :     stopped counting at 50 that's FIFTY.....

It can't be the Superhub/Virgin connection as the cheap Pioneer hasn't cut out once, and as it stands I'm thinking how lucky I am that I didn't go the other route and buy an NDS and other seperates.

This is my first step into the 'upper end' of the hifi world, so any help or advice would be welcomed, and yes the sound is brilliant when also used with the likes of FLAC files which I also have.

Oh there it goes again, cutting out for the usual 5-ish seconds oh and again 30 seconds later....

Thanks

Connect a switch to the router. A Netgear GS105 will do it. Connect the SU and NAS to the switch. Fix the IP addresses of the SU and NAS. That should fix it.

Hi Edward69,

Hungryhalibuts suggestion is a good one that might well do the trick.

Perhaps another option could be to contact Naim Support (see sticky at top of the subject section).

They are a very friendly and helpful bunch and I'm sure they would be able to help.

I had a similar problem when I plugged my Uniti2 directly into my wireless router thinking that would be the best fix. I solved it using a Netgear switch in between the two. I have no idea why this is, other than the switch must manage traffic better than the router

Thanks everyone for the quick replies. I will get one as soon as, and post up the results. From what I gather the Superhub2's are not that great anyway. Would anyone recommend putting the Superhub2 into 'bridge' mode and sending data straight through it and into the switch, or would that cause (if I am correct - I'm no network bod) an I.P. address not being given out, something the switch probably wouldn't do and therefore rendering the net inaccessible.....?? Maybe plug the Apple Time Capsule into the switch to get wifi and a working net connection.

....sorry I meant to ask about 'fixing the IP address', how is that done and why.

+1 for using a switch, to me its  no brainer and a cheap improvement.  I have a superhub 2 and, until very recently, its been pretty good to be fair.  In the past, with the first superhub, I used it in modem mode and connected a really good router to deal with wireless and wired ethernet connections which worked very well.  When I got my superhub 2 I no longer needed to do this and sold my router.  I would try a switch first - if you are having problems with a wired connection its either a fault on the hub or a fault elsewhere on the network imho

All wireless hubs manage the IP address allocation with a system called DHCP,  its designed for & is ideal for small home systems.  Fixing - or maybe better, reserving a specific IP address - is a good idea, however its an added complication that if not done right will cause discovery issues  & my advice is leave it until you have this iRadio connection problem sorted first.

My Virgin Superhub is in modem mode, i feed it into a Netgear WNR2000 (other Hub/routers are avaliable)

No problems with my UnitiQte (apart from BBC iPlayer radio shows, even with the software update!)
