Unitiquite 2 & Minimserver

Just got my UQ2 up and running last night, and all is good - very impressed. There's some quirks that I need to make work for me (generally around assigning new labels for inputs etc) but loving it so far.

I've got a stack of ALACs on my Macbook that is running Minimserver - and everything is peachy. I'll eventually migrate it to either a cheap Mac Mini server or something.

Quick question about Minimserver though.

I've got a limited library at the moment, mainly because I'm still to rip the vast majority of my CDs, but I've noticed a couple of things I wondered if anyone knew a fix for.

In the instance I have a compilation CD which features more than one artist, is there a way for Minimserver to file this album under Various Artists or something? Is this what album artist is for? It's a bit irritating to have to browse through a whole stack of artists in artist view, where there's actually only one song by that artist.

Secondly, this seems bizarre to me, but where I've got an self titled CD, e.g. Suede by Suede - it doesn't report the artist name! Anyone noticed that?

Hmmm. Various Artists. They do seem to cause no end of problems. I'm trying to sort out mine under Asset v5 (which is curious because I thought I had them sorted previously!).

The first thing to try is the various tags. Have you set Album Artist? Have you set the Compilation flag?

For compilations, I just set the artist tag for all of the tracks to Various or whatever, then put both the artist and track name as the track name tag.

So my system thinks it's playing a track called eg At The Gates - Under A Serpent Sun from an album called Noize Pollution Compilation by an artist called Various.

You can do this in the metadata. Set the artist or track artist accordingly (as in each individual artist's name) and set album artist to "Various" and minim will see it as it should be. Works for me.

What (I hope) I have often done is tag, say, 'Atlantic Gold, vol 1' as 'album artist' for pure compilations.

You then need to ask Minim to show 'album artist' as it wasn't a default tag for it.
