Football season 2015/16

Well the new season beckons, though I see some unfortunate clubs have been playing Europa League qualifiers already (no summer hols for the Hammers). So I thought I’d kick off (pun intended) with some predictions.
In the PL, as I did last season, I’m going to tip Chelsea to win the title. Mourinho has freshened his squad, it’s a bit younger and I suspect he has retained the all-important hunger. I also won’t be surprised if Mourinho gets Falcoa to fire in the way we know he can.
Man City/Man U and Arsenal to fight out the next three places. I further predict mid-table mediocrity to Liverpool (if so, Rodgers may not survive past Xmas), while Palace enjoy a season in the top half.
At the bottom, I hope Bournemouth survive while my head says not but whatever happens I hope the club and their fans have a thoroughly enjoyable season. I think Watford will drop with the other relegation place being between Leicester, Norwich and Villa.
I think the Championship is very hard to call. If QPR retain Charlie Austin I can see them bouncing back. I don’t see Burnley doing so. Nor Hull. Ipswich might make it this time.
Of course I’m hoping my lot will get promoted out of League Two under our new manager Paul Cook but I’ve been following them for long enough to know that disappointment is very possible again.

Flicking between the T20 final and the footie to see the Foxes' big, big win this afternoon. The last quarter of the game wasn't pretty but I had to admire the way Leicester saw the game out, giving Soton very little possession. Really hoping they can pull it off now.

A brilliant, thrilling game at the Boleyn this lunchtime. One of the best WHU performances all season. Superb hat-trick from Dobbin. However the joy is dampened somewhat by Arsenal's egregious cheating (again) and one of the most disgracefully incompetent referees (Craig Pawson) I've seen in many a year. Lanzini's goal should have stood. We should have won that 4 - 3 or even 5 -3.

Can't see the Gunners closing a gap of 13 points with only six games to play, still less Man City closing 15 points over six. So it looks like the only team who has a chance of stopping the Foxes winning the title is Spurs. And while this Spurs team looks the best I've seen in decades they need Leicester to lose three of their last five games. Their victory at Sunderland this afternoon looks like they might have turned that fairy-tale into a reality. I still can't quite believe this is really happening. If it does it will give hope to fans of the majority of clubs that can't spend hundreds of millions on transfer fees and wages. What a wonderful season this is turning out to be.

Congratulations to City reaching the semi-finals of the Champions' League. England's last hope.
It would be nice for Mr Pellegrini if they went all the way. I'd like to see him leave the club on high.

Blimey! What a come back by Liverpool tonight. 3-1 down at home to a very, very good German side and storm back in the second half to win 4-3. Well done you Reds.

Great match! Must admit I thought it was over when Liverpool went down 3-1, but they showed a lot of heart, and delivered a memorable win versus Klopp's former employer.

I must thank plucky WestHam and their Manager Bilic for their effort at Leicester. If we win at Stoke we will be just 5 points away from Leicester. Come on you Spurs!

Must say I thought Spurs looked very impressive against a competent Stoke team last night. The pace and one-touch method at which they counter-attack must very hard to defend against. Best Spurs side I've seen in years.

Appalling atmosphere at Villa Park yesterday, for their defeat by Saints. To hear Lescott and Guzan especially booed with that shameful intensity by their own fans. I should be pleased for the Saints win but the miserable vibe spoils it. Still it won't stop Phil Space in the local media banging on about Europe next season for Soton.
There was thankfully a lighter moment as both teams and the officals warmed up. A Villa fan called over to the ref who was very near the sideline and said, "Tell you what ref, make if fair to us and just gives us five minutes each way".

Well done to Palace this afternoon. I'll be rooting for them in the final.
And the Leicester machine drives on. Just 5 more points and the fairytale comes true!

I'm pleased to say the ref enjoyed the joke and had a bit of banter with the guy in the crowd. C.

I won't
But the vast majority of the rest of the country will be though.
I would imagine that many of them will be ManUre supporters, who believe that a Cup win will extend Butthead's time at the club.

Utd fans must be looking forward to a short trip to Wembley, too, rather than that long trudge up to the North West.
Sorry, Chris. Couldn't resist that tired dig

So Spurs blew it at home to a West Brom team with nothing to play for. The Foxes can now win the title at Old Trafford at the weekend. What a place to win it, too!
PS - Sorry, Mr Dolan, for the second time this evening

Leicester are more likely to win it on Monday when Chelski play Spurs - but I will be at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Posted on: 28 April 2016 by MDS
I agree that more likely outcome, Chris, if it were a 'normal' season. Still if the unlikely does happen, I'm sure you and the rest of the Old Trafford crowd will be gracious in acknowledging what would be a monumental achievement by Leicester.
Posted on: 28 April 2016 by Chris Dolan
It would indeed be a phenomenal achievement - I would just prefer it to be delayed for a day
Posted on: 28 April 2016 by dayjay
I would not be at all surprised if they won it on Sunday, all season they have managed to do just what they needed to do and, hopefully, they will demonstrate that it's not all about money and more about good management, commitment and heart. It's not a bad lesson for the rest of the league

Leicester to win the Prem by all means but not this weekend, please!!

On reflection, while it would be sweet for the Foxes to win the Premiership at Old Trafford tomorrow or at Chelsea on the final day, given those clubs are true Premiership 'grandees', I suppose for the fans it would be best for them to do it at home against Everton next week. That way the maximum number of Leicester fans will be able to have that unforgettable thrill and be able to say 'I was there'. I wonder what the football gods will decide?

Saints just ran through Man City this afternoon, Sadio Mané electric.
