Football season 2015/16

Well the new season beckons, though I see some unfortunate clubs have been playing Europa League qualifiers already (no summer hols for the Hammers). So I thought I’d kick off (pun intended) with some predictions.
In the PL, as I did last season, I’m going to tip Chelsea to win the title. Mourinho has freshened his squad, it’s a bit younger and I suspect he has retained the all-important hunger. I also won’t be surprised if Mourinho gets Falcoa to fire in the way we know he can.
Man City/Man U and Arsenal to fight out the next three places. I further predict mid-table mediocrity to Liverpool (if so, Rodgers may not survive past Xmas), while Palace enjoy a season in the top half.
At the bottom, I hope Bournemouth survive while my head says not but whatever happens I hope the club and their fans have a thoroughly enjoyable season. I think Watford will drop with the other relegation place being between Leicester, Norwich and Villa.
I think the Championship is very hard to call. If QPR retain Charlie Austin I can see them bouncing back. I don’t see Burnley doing so. Nor Hull. Ipswich might make it this time.
Of course I’m hoping my lot will get promoted out of League Two under our new manager Paul Cook but I’ve been following them for long enough to know that disappointment is very possible again.

Steve,
Isn't that Nigel Pearson?

I thought Newcastle looked very ordinary this evening, showing no real creativity going forward and struggled to cope with the 'ammers pace up front. WHU deserved the points. One further thought. Carroll came off the bench late in the game. Nice to see him fit again but if I were a WHU fan I'd worry that Bilic might change the seemingly successful tactic of attacking with pace and power to use Carroll's height as a target man.

As a Newcastle supporter all my life it pains me so much when certain players just seem to be going through the motions. Was the problem last season and we blamed the manager, but when 3 out of 4 efforts on goal are from the fullback it says little for the guy in a no. 9 shirt.

Not a good night for Manchester in the Champions League tonight. I certainly expected more from City given their immaculate start to the PL season.

I didn't find out the Citeh result until I got to Amsterdam airport and could connect to wi-fi - it cheered me up slightly at the time

No worries Mike - Slav's not Fat Sam!

Should be a good game Kevin. I wish we were playing you at the Boleyn.

I think it should be a cracker Steve - the best team in the country vs a pacy, counterattacking team with ambition.
I don't think we'll get much though, I'd be happy with a draw, or a score that doesn't constitute a massacre.

Nosebleed time for Happy Hammers!

Way-to-go you Hammers! Result of the season for me so far. City may claim their usual Champions League fatigue but the Hammers' display in the second half to hold on to that 2-1 lead showed real mettle. I take my hat off to Mr Bilic.

Having watched MoTD last night I haven't got much sympathy for Wenger or Arsenal. That said I did wonder whether some previous centre-backs would have dealt with Costa's petulance in a 'different' way. Like messrs Adams, Keown and Bould, for example.

Another great performance from the Hammers, a well drilled counter attacking tactic working a treat. We have some confidence on the ball as well, first goal topped of a 14 pass build up. Payed a great buy for the club, real class.

Pompey win away and are now top of League 2!!
What a turnaround from last year - it shows what a good manager can do.

And the Red Devils being top at this point of the season must be a bit of a surprise, Chris. They don't seem to be firing on all cylinders yet but LouisVG seems to be getting there.

It would be nice if they played some football in the first half though - although LVG could of course just be following where the visionary Tim Sherwood leads

Indeed. City were derelict in their duty to keep Spuds firmly in their place.

A rather mediocre performance by the Irons (apart from the first 10 minutes and the last 10) but a thrilling game nevertheless. Bilic is certainly bringing the fans entertainment after the thrill-free Allardyce years.

PFC 1, Exeter 2. And that's why I mustn't get too excited. Grrrrr

MDS at the game today.
Could have been 2-0 in the first 10 minutes, after that went poor. Goal in last minute nothing more than a consolation
Too ponderous tonight, too many second touches, not close to the intensity of the Derby County Cup result.
Don't get me started on Davies :-)

Bl00dy H3ll, what a stunner. When was the last time Saints won at The Bridge?

Actually I think was only in about 2002 or 2003, Mr Mole, but still a stunning victory today and I thought the Saints looked well worth their win from what I saw of the game on Sky Sports
