Spotify/streamer firmware update

Posted by: maze on 04 August 2015

having managed to update the firmware on my 172, selecting spotify on the naim app and asking to launch spotify app, no sound is coming through. Am I missing something here? I have also attached USB cable from iPad to 172 and still no sound, help.

You have to specify the device on Spotify (ie tell Spotify that you want the sound to come from the 172, not from the local device). You also need a Premium account. If those are handled, is there an error message? What control device are you using?

Have you subscribed to the premium service. If so, you need to press the little speaker in the Spotify app and it will work.

No don't have premium, so that answers my question. Not sure I would use spotify enough to warrant premium. I tend to use it to listen to those albums I missed over the years and decide to buy on CD or vinyl. Thanks for the answer though.

Spotify Premium had a 3 month free trial, worth a go if it's still available just to see if you like it. Mine, by pure coincidence, expired on the same day the Apple service launched, so I'm now using their 3 month free trial instead. What will happen when that expires, I haven't decided. Like you, I only use it for music discovery, to see if I like something enough to but a CD or download.

But that only has to save you from buying one duff CD a month to make it worthwhile!

(That's always been my line of thought, but I still haven't got a streaming service set up.)

Looking last night the offer is 7 days trial, I may give it a try.

Well I have taken up the 7 day trial, the sound, sounds a little shut in even on what spotify calls hi def. but at least I can stream and listen to stuff I'm interested in.

Not great, is it! That's why I only use it for music discovery - if it's worth £10 a month just for that....well, that depends partly on what Naim might have up their sleeve in terms of lossless streaming support.

No not great, as a find and play thing it's great though. Discovered tons  of albums I never bought back in the day as well as all those deluxe editions that come out these days.
