New NDX owner struggling with the Naim app

Posted by: overprint on 11 August 2015

Apologies if this has been covered but having just acquired a new NDX plus QNAP Nas and finally getting everything together and working, one item remains stubborn and refuses to co-operate. That is the Naim app (Android version). It will control the NDX, the internet radio (no DAB/FM module fitted), display album songs and album artwork but refuses to play anything, simply stating "Can't Play. Skipping Track". All functionality works from the Naim remote or the front panel. The NAS works fine via a PC and Minim software, files all transfer OK (FLACS) and are playable by all routes except the app.

Can anyone offer any help?

Not familiar with the Qnap but I had a similar problem with Media Tomb until I changed the Naim App to use compatibility mode. Since then never seen the problem again.

I am not familiar with QNAP or the Android app,

However I would try   .......

- reindex the QNAP files

- after that reboot QNAP & make sure the NDX input button can see the network & NAS before trying to play anything

- clear all the app caches or reinstall the app

I would add...

Try rebooting your Android device, particularly if this hasn't been done since the NAS was added to the network or since the Naim app was installed.

Next thing, do you have a separate network switch (other than the 'broadband router') in you network?  If not try that, a simple unmanaged switch will only cost £15-£20 + a network cable, and they sometimes considerably improve the network reliability (by switching traffic directly to the appropriate device rather than sending it everywhere just to see who's interested in it).

Thanks for the input folks. I had tried all the suggestions (and yes, there is a network switch between my broadband router and NAS/NDX) except switching the app to compatibility mode - which I've done and hey, guess what, it seems to have solved the problem. Really chuffed with the sound of the NDX and the QNAP with SSDs makes no noise whatsoever.

Now just got a mountain of CDs to get through.....

Thanks again
