Brandnew Mu-So / Problems with Airplay and Firmware Update

Posted by: Joe Strummer on 20 August 2015

Hi all,

I have bought and successfully installed my new Mu-so last weekend ... however, there are two issues where I need some input:

Firstly, for any reason, Airplay doesn't work. The mu-so (by Ethernet) as well as iPhone, iPad and a MacBook Pro (all by Wifi) are alltogether connected to my Home network. The Mu-So is running (Webradio and iPhone via USB for example) and can be found and controlled by the Naim App. However, all my Apple devices do not show the Mu-So as an "Air Play Speaker" (an Apple TV for example, connected to the same network also by Ethernet can be found w/o any problems by the Apple devices). The "Net Analyzer App" on my iPhone/iPad shows the MuSo connected to the Network but not with the "Bonjour" icon. It looks like the Mu-So is not broadcasting / responding to the Apple Bonjour protocol, which is - in my understanding - a precondition for the Air Play functionality. And now? Any ideas?

The second issue is, that the Mu-So is running on firmware Version 1.01.000. I understood that there is an update available on 1.02.000 and that this update needs to be done through the Naim App. However, the App does not show this update where this should be shown so that I have no idea how to start the firmware update.

Thank you in advance for your answers/remarks. I'm hopeful that someone out there can help me since this forum has been very helpful in the past already (I also own a Uniti and a Unitiserve).

Greetings from Munich,

Peter

Hi Peter

Does not sound like anything obviously amiss.  As you suggest, the absence of Bonjour is the likely culprit.   I would try try powering off and on again and see if it makes an appearance.

Does uPnP work OK from your UnitiServe?

suggest you also look at Muso support on the website where there are a lot of Muso specific help suggestions, and then log a support request if still not resolved.

Hope me you get it working soon - mine has been very stable and reliable on all inputs.

The MuSo and the Mac need to be on the same network.  When they have not been at my house, I get the issues you describe.  I had similar issues before I performed the upgrade.  When they are all on the same network,  it has all worked enough to perform the upgrade, and I was back in business.
