I suspect you are using Twonky. Install a proper server, such as Asset or Minim and you can then move forwards.

Yes!

How do I change HH ... I am not good at tech!

Kind of like, "I just bought a cat.  Can't stand cats.  What should I do?"

Not entirely. You don't know what you don't know. But thanks!?!

Stu,

I am into tech, and I cannot get my artwork to show consistently -- I think I know how to fix it, but haven't the time.  Streaming is not for everybody.  My wife is into tech, but only tolerates my Hi-Fi streaming experiments because she loves me.  I enjoy the hobby a lot, but, until I retire, I will not have time to run it all properly.  Maybe you have more time than I do.

The humanitarian in me wants to warn the eternal tech-newbies to safer waters of CD replay, which is well understood and sounds great.

Just here to help.

Best of luck.

Nick

Thank you Nick.

Streaming is my secondary source so I will keep plugging away.

It is a bit baffling at first. I suggest you install Minimserver. Just google it and you will find it. Give a donation to Simon, who is the developer. Then just fiddle about, ask questions, search the web. You'll get there.

Stu - if you are half as smart as some of these blokes, you can learn this. Of course you're not born knowing it.

HungryHalibut made a great first suggestion -- run a first-rate server on your new QNAP Nas.  It can very likely run Minim Server, and Asset.  If you Google "Minim Server for QNAP" or "Asset server for QNAP" you'll start to find what you're looking for.  Install one of those.  Learn how to turn off the media server that came with your QNAP.  Those are the first steps!

Stu, another thing you need to learn early on is how to view, and edit if necessary, the meta-data "tags" that these servers and players use to identify what is what.

Do you typically use a Windows or a Mac (OS X) at home on your home network?  There are meta-data tag editors for each, and you'll want to install a good one on your home computer.

When you have your server sorted, you'll always want to make sure that your music files are properly "tagged" and it's best to check that BEFORE you add them to the server's music directory.  If you edit the data AFTER it's on the server, you have to wait for the server to re-scan its files and pick up the changes; this usually is not immediate. It can leave you wondering, "Hey I just fixed that title and it doesn't show yet on the Naim App."  That will be why; the server doesn't see changes immediately.

We'll move on to art work next

I suppose a UnitiServe is out of the question, Stu?  They just 'work' when you plug them into your network and do what you're expecting a server to do... in the right order.

If so, you're looking at the prospect, as has been said earlier, at getting to grips with your new QNAP NAS drive.  As we say in the world of IT... you'll need to RTFM  (read the manual).

Here's another bit of useless (to you) information... Netgear NAS drives DO present your music in the way you're expecting... so anyone else wondering what to buy could do worse than go Netgear.

Good luck (as they sometimes say in Salisbury) !

Thanks Bart. I only use my home PC, windows not Mac. No idea about tagging ????

  1. what UPnP software are you using (Twonky most likely) if so which version. The latest versions are not all that bad and can certainly play tracks in the correct order.
  2. what did you use to rip with and what format did you rip to. If you ripped to WAV this is the most likely cause of the tracks not playing on order but playing in alphabetical order.
  3. What Naim streamer are you using?
  4. what do you use the Naim app on? You don't have random selected?

answer these questions and we may be able to help.

Thank you.

Twonky and the NAS is only a month old so must be the most recent version. Def ripped to Flac using DB power amp. Superuniti. How do I check if random is selected when using my iPhone or iPad?

You'll learn about tagging; you cannot stream networked music without learning about it!  dbPoweramp, when it rips, typically gets all the tags right. But not 100% of the time, and as you start to buy digital downloads online, you'll really need to be able to check and edit the tags.

Using the remote click the random play button and the Superuniti will cycle between random on and off.

on the app click the 3 buttons at the top of the play queue and make sure random is not highlighted (bright white rather than grey)

I'd be surprised if this was the issue but worth checking anyway as you seem to be doing everything else correctly.

Have a look at the files in Windows explorer, do they look like this (JJCale #8)

Open the qnap main page and select twonky and browse to an album and see if is displayed here properly

the image of the album cover is coming from the folder.jpg which dbpoweramp should have put in the folder while you ripped.

It can be a steep curve but I hope this helps.

Glad to have solved one problem, you won't make that mistake again!

I can only Qnap finder and when I open this there is no reference to twonky? Also Can you change the ordering e.g. The music gets played in listed order and not alphabetical?

Help!
Posted on: 07 September 2015 by Bart

Stu - you may not be running Twonky.  What does your Naim App say -- does it say Twonky is running?  If it says Twonky is running, go to the App Center on your QNAP nas and just do a search for Twonky.  There is a search bar in the App Center, upper left corner of the big App Center window.

Posted on: 07 September 2015 by Stu22
Naim app says twonky and I have found it in the app centre. No idea what to do now!?!

Click remove.

I removed Twonky from my QNAP and installed squeezebox server.
