BA Plane Fire - people in a time of crisis think only of themselves
Posted by: winkyincanada on 09 September 2015
I wonder how all these people who took the time to collect their carry-on luggage before evacuating a flaming aeroplane would feel about those decisions if passengers were killed as a result of their selfishness.
Selfish idiots.
Will be interesting to find out why the engine fire extinguisher system did not work as designed.
Good news is that, unlike a crash, all the data has been preserved, and if necessary, changes and improvements can be made.
Most of us who travel have been on, or will someday fly, a 777. I'll be on one for 15 hours in just a few short weeks. Overall, it has an incredibly good safety record, and hopefully this turns out to be a one-off event.

It's an excellent safety record for the 777. Even better if you subscribe to the conspiracy theories around MH370.
Exactly. Once some selfish idiot is clutching their "irreplaceable" luggage, it's quicker to just let them go.
It's Vegas, they probably just bought it at an outlet at a 'cheap' price, it was at their feet, had their cell/purse/passport and they were exiting onto a tarmac, not water.... sure they shouldn't have done it, but we weren't in their shoes.
Given that large hole in the last photo, I'm surprised the tires didn't melt...

Oh, I would have been tempted to take something for sure. Maybe not my wheely bag, but my laptop case with my passport and phone etc. would have been hard to leave behind. Particularly if everyone else was doing it.
The Boeing 777 is memorable for having the most uncomfortable seats I've ever had the misfortune to sit in, and that was premium economy.
I'm sure the cabin crew told the passengers not to take anything with them but if everyone grabbed their luggage anyway I doubt the crew would want to stand around on a burning plane and argue with them. Airline passengers are pretty awful at following instructions aren't they?
fight or flight ? If it was me I would be flapping out big time.
We went with AA to USA earlier this year and thought the 777 was a fine aircraft. Even without extra leg room on the return it was fine for me.

Seats are specified by the customer, not the manufacturer. Blame your airline, not the 777.

I assume as you said Premium Economy, it was BA. I have to agree, not the most comfortable. They are BA seats, not Boeing, & the same seats are on the BA 747 fleet as well, so be warned.
I'm OK with them if its a day time flight but not on overnight. My next trip is Antigua & I've booked Prem.Ec out (daytime) & Club home (zzzz time).
Yes chaps, aware it isn't down to the manufacturer. Mike, spot-on. BA to Mauritius & back. Kept looking at my watch, praying it'd run faster. I complained to BA but received no reply...

I was in one of them yesterday and will be in one tomorrow, hopefully an one time event, indeed!

Returning from Mauritius after our honeymoon, my seat would not recline and my TV screen didn't work (not a BA flight). I would have killed for premium economy! 12 hour daytime flight. Ouch.
Heading to Vancouver on Wednesday, but in an A330 so no worries...........
..................who mentioned Air France !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've done about 500 hrs P! this past year, so I guess its just as well.
Although ISTR a statistic from the dim and distant past that claimed that 1/3 of all aeroplanes ended their lives by crashing !! Perhaps with improved maintenance that statistic has now reduced significantly these past few years.
Thanks Jamie, I'm feeling more hopeful by the minute.........

If your next flight is on an Airbus A320 look out for the Recaro brand logo on the back of their seating, even at economy level it will be an improvement on the Boeing standard or premium economy.

Well, we got here safely after a very pleasant flight over Iceland, Greenland and Baffin Island. No stalling !
But the traffic in Vancouver at 15:00 was dreadful and Highway No 1 likewise until almost at Chilliwack ! How people put up with this beats me ! Ok Highway 5 to Merritt and the Connector to Kelowna were almost empty. Best part of 24 hours door to door.
We can now relax in the Okanagan and Canmore for a month or so...............before heading for the Calgary traffic and another A330 flight back.

No, next flight is on whatever Virgin Atlantic use these days to the Caribbean; I've always found their Premium Economy seats very comfy. A friend of our's a pilot with them & happens to fly to the destination we're going to. Hope he's in the hot seat on our flight...

Mostly Boeing 747's. Two of my part-time instructors still fly them, or rather "monitor" them whilst they fly themselves !
Oh Goody Don! Always find them nice & civilised.

Beats me too. I would never sign up for a life of commuting in traffic. But billions do.

lol. I'm dreading the border crossing heading to Vancouver this afternoon. I hate traffic.

Don't forget the toll on the Port Mann bridge if you're using Highway No 1 to get into or out off town !

One of them is Sally Toye (Captain) and the other is Andrew Bloom (Senior First Officer).
With frightening frequency these days, I find myself on a flight where I trained one of the pilots.
