BA Plane Fire - people in a time of crisis think only of themselves

I wonder how all these people who took the time to collect their carry-on luggage before evacuating a flaming aeroplane would feel about those decisions if passengers were killed as a result of their selfishness.

Selfish idiots.

So if I mention you're one of my bestest pals Don, they might upgrade me to first class?

The one in South Africa was written off !

Wrong turning, or rather, failed to turn left on a taxiway at night !

ISTR that the push-back left the a/c facing 180 deg to the way the crew expected and it kind of disorientated them a bit !

Expensive !

All this wing damaging reminds me of a BA Trident flight many years ago from Shannon to LHR.

At Shannon in those days the baggage trolley trains were tugged around by farm tractors & as I was watching out from the dep area, a baggage train tractor got too close & bent a wing tip pitot tube.  Whoops I thought,  thats another night in Shannon.

But BA (bless 'em) sent over a replacement plane,  a brand new not yet in service 757,  together with a 757 qualified crew & redcap...   We got on the plane & with only half full Trident numbers, the 757 was almost empty.  The pilot came on the intercom & explained very enthusiasticly all about the new 757, obviously very proud & very techo nerdish over planes.  We got to the end of the runway to head west & then turn east & route to London. The pilot then said OK folks, lets see what this plane can do & off we went; take off was normal albeit we were rotating & airborne a hell of a lot quicker than the dear old Trident,  after what seemed like a normal climb rate & the 180 degree turn east was completed he turned up the go faster wick & climb rate & a few minutes later the pronounced very proudly that we were at 40,000ft & 30 miles down range & "I bet that impressed the folks at Shannon"   Happy days, & the first of a zillion miles in 757's

I think it was the tug driver who mis-judged the clearances, rather than the Virgin crew.......

.....but expensive, non-the-less !

The modified wing on a Boeing 737 would have made that clearance
