Closing Naim Forum Account.

Posted by: Tony2011 on 11 September 2015

I have recently  read an article on how difficult, sometimes impossible, to close an account and wipe out information  from certain websites. In most cases, once you sign up,  it is up to them how they handle your personal information, bank details etc. I was wondering how do Naim stand on this matter. If one decides to leave the Forum and close the account, will they delete all your info and previous posts on request?

By the way, sorry to disappoint a few of you: it's just curiosity. I'm not going anywhere. Not yet!

I would very much hope that they would simply delete your account but leave previous posts. I think that when you have posted something that it effectively belongs to them.

Yes, the forum is a great place, source of  invaluable information and data I do agree.

Here is a link, I hope the moderators don't mind, of a few websites  and how difficult its is to remove your personal data.

If requested, Naim will delete your account. No user information is then held.  That is why, when users sometimes ask for their account to be reinstated, I'm unable to do so; they then need to open a new account.

Note that no financial details are required or taken for membership here.  You don't even need to give a specific physical address, just a working e-mail.

Note too that when an account is deleted, the posts stay put. Threads wouldn't make much sense otherwise.

Thank you, Richard.

Damnit...I thought we had another "Goodbye Naim" thread.

Move along...nothing to see here.

P.S.  The least Richard could do when deleting an account is manually remove each post from the deleted account, and add a unique personal message for each one.  In that way no one would be confused by the threads missing posts.

I thought I'd noticed threads fraying from time to time as certain accounts were closed. This was when looking back to see a line of argument/contributions and discovering that one or two players no longer seemed to exist even thought they had contributed copiously.

Or was I just witnessing the gentle art of moderation?

Which is a good thing.

In both meanings.

Tony,

Surely you've been here long enough to witness the comings and goings of various iterations of the same contributor under different forum names, and are adept using the advanced search function to know the answer to your post. Do you have some ulterior motivation?

Not only George if you know Wat I mean?

The esteemed Wat has had a number of previous monikers, as have several others - Polarbear, muggins.....

Posted on: 12 September 2015 by Tony2011

I have  always wondered why people find it necessary to do that? Boredom? Just another silly question of me...

Tony I have wondered the same thing, perhaps it's a sign of a form of schizophrenia ?

Yes, I have removed the thread - please refrain from discussing members who have left the forum.  It is any members right to leave if they so choose but as they are no longer able to reply, it's fairer not to discuss.  Thank you.

Bizarre?

A member can vacate the forum and leave his/her posts behind but you can't discuss this person?????

I had to laugh - when I saw this thread name, and the avatar of who started it, I thought "Surely Tony is not about to leave - and if he did this just didn't seem him style to go about it this way."

Glad to see I was "disappointed."

Mild one, perhaps.

Yes, I can remain but my posts must not!

Forum position, in the person of Richard, is fair. Never talk about someone who can't answer.

And leaving his/her posts in place does not mess threads.

But.......please let me think that i would forget the word "cancel" in the forum's options as i think that a person could decide to come back sometimes and somehow. Just like i did.

That said still i hope ol' George and all those who decided to leave are good.

Well said Wat...but what on earth does this have to do with Hugo?
