I found this rather moving, so I thought I'd share it with the Naim folk.
I saw the excellent BBC Hollow Crown series two years ago (Shakespeare Richard II to Henry V plays) and looked up what happened to everyone on the internet. One is buried at the location above.
I've driven past this church many times and never known it was there, hidden (the camera widens the view) on a busy twisty road lined with high hedges.
Inside it is from another age and much like it was when built in the 1300s. Not much to see except a large tomb near the alter.
And buried under a magnificent brass plate is Elizabeth Mortimer, daughter of the Earl of March, Great-Grand Daughter of Edward III and wife of Henry Percy , AKA Harry Hotspur who was himself killed by the Prince of Wales, later to become Henry V. She is buried with her second husband and the tomb dates from 1421.
I'm just amazed that we have such treasures hidden away, witnesses to our tales of history with all that traffic rumbling by outside, undisturbed for 600 years. There are no clues outside the church. I know there are many tombs in the great cathedrals and cemeteries, but most are well known tourist destinations.
Anyone else know of similar resting places in quiet locations? Don't shout about it though or they won't last.
