The Abbey Road Crossing
Posted by: joerand on 12 September 2015
My daughter, just graduated from college, is amid a six week trip in Europe and did the crossing. Certainly looks like a great attraction for tourists and the webcam viewing can be fun for the creative foursomes that appear, but I wonder how locals view the fabled crossing. Has this become a real PITA for those required to use the route? Any tourists here done it?
It is not an issue as the traffic seems to expect it.
How can anybody visiting Abbey Road resist having their photo taken on the crossing? ...after all it is key part of British culture!

The Simpson's crossing was a close second for my choice of forum avatar
In the early 80s I lived less than 2 minutes walk from Abbey Road studios, and I only ever saw one pair of (Japanese) tourists looking at the crossing. I'm not quite sure what they were expecting, but they looked rather disappointed.
Its one of the biggest non-event sights in London, not surprised the japanese tourists looked disappointed.
Last time I walked past, the black & white was very worn & a repaint was long overdue, in the rain it was almost invisible .......... but for fans of the crossing, here be the live cam feed. The camera is mounted on the Abbey Road Studio's boundary wall/fence
By coincidence, I also briefly lived near to Penny Lane. The Japanese tourists there looked really disappointed!
I went to Strawberry Field, all overgrown & not a Japanese tourist in sight.

Richard...
When I did the Abbey Road Studio tour last year, I stood and watched the crossing for about five minutes. The locals may be used to the antics on the crossing, but the Black Taxis get the real a**e with it, as it holds them up! As we all know, time is money to the 'Knights Of The Road'
You have to get up very early in the morning to photograph a chicken crossing the road.

But why did he cross in the first place?
It's not even the same crossing - it was moved several years later. I live nearby and have no problem waiting while people to take photos of each other - it's rather sweet.
