From The Beatles website, what next I wonder?

Spot on DrMark. I've never understood why the song gets such little radio play these days, perhaps owing to it being on the "relatively obscure" Yellow Submarine soundtrack album. I love that Lennon and McCartney are holding the handwritten lyrics as they sing, testimony to the basic track being completed in a single recording session. The filming of Hey Bulldog is notable as it likely captures the last happy, spontaneous interactions between Lennon and McCartney in the studio. Any videos I've viewed suffer from audio/video synchronization and I suspect this issue will be treated in the new release. Should be very good to see.

If you're a fan of McCartney's bass on the song, the isolated bass follows.

Yeah Joe when I was looking for the "regular" video I came across that one - Macca is also a damn good bass player.

Dammit, I just used the $25 Amazon gift card I earned through our company Vitality Health program to pre-order.

Who was that guy above who said there was nothing left?   What an @sshole.

Although I view it as a DVD purchase, and will store it with my DVD collection as opposed to the CDs...and won't even burn the CD onto my VB unless there is something noteworthy about the production on these cuts, which I don't anticipate.

Strangely it's the total opposite for me I'm looking forward to remixed version of these songs  as I thought the yellow submarine song track remixes were better than the originals.

I'll certainly give the DVD a play but I would expect to listen to the music repeatedly.

Well SJB, I certainly intend to give them a listen, and if they are better sounding than what I have that would alter my plan.  However, it is the video driving my purchase, and since I was able to get it for net $39 that also helped make the purchase.

I agree with you about YS, but some of the other recent remasters that I purchased (Sgt Pepper, White Album, Revolver) were less impressively improved to my ear...especially inasmuch as they didn't fix the hard right/left aspect of the stereo on so many Beatles cuts, and in fact I prefer listening to many of those tunes from my mono box set.

Agree Doc - I only listen to the monos these days.

As a huge Beatles fan I welcome this package, but more for the videos than for the remixes. They look stunning on the youtube clips. Having said that, the mixes on Yellow Submarine were good, especially Eleanor Rigby, with the centralised vocal. Not sure what else can be released/repackaged music wise, maybe 3d holographic sound & vision direct-injection into the brain in 50 years time.

My favourite Beatles related listening at the moment are the multitracks that can be found on various sites (like the bass isolation above). One's that spring to mind are Eric Clapton's solo track on "While My Guitar" and vocals only of the whole medley of Abbey Road B side. Not "hifi" maybe, but sends a shiver down the spine. Perhaps one day they will release Pepper in multitrack form so we can all practice our George Martin skills.

Redmires,

As you're aware, there's a plethora of Pepper isolated tracks on the etherweb. A fellow Beatles aficionado burned a CD for me of the isolated vocals from Pepper. Even as MP3s the vocals come across as intimate. Very raw and visceral recordings. Most striking to me was the befitting melancholy tone of McCartney's voice on "She Leaving Home". Perhaps even haunting. Good stuff and I suppose no music catalog will ever be dissected to the Nth degree as the Beatles.

that's the difference between remixing and remastering, hence my interest in these.

Totally agree. That's the magic hidden away inside the recordings. Once you've heard it, SLH will never sound the same again. It's similar to a great work of art being renovated and x-rayed, revealing the different layers, the processes involved and the skills of the artist.
