Have I got a good sound system?
Posted by: Kazibabes on 22 September 2015
I am new to this HIFI lark! Can anyone tell me if my system is any good?
The system is a Naim 552 with a 500 and a NAT - Speakers are Art
open to advise!
Not really, you need Magnepan speakers! Or a Hugo.
But they are big and ugly,

+3
Why would I want three Hugo"s confused!
Hutter rack?
Well I am assuming your post was tongue-in-cheek. Every thread has a Maggie or Hugo in it somewhere, just thought I'd get tings going. If you are unsure if your system is any good, you are either the lucky inheritor of some cool kit or have not heard it comparatively against other systems, it should be fantastic. I cannot tell champagne from asti spumanti, so am a cheap date!
Can you tell us if you have a good system? If not, then no, you don't. And what's a hugo?

Yes I have inherited it from someone, just wondered if I should update anything?
I'm sure plenty of forum members would give their right arm to have your system. That's a lot of amp just to listen to the radio, do you have any other source?
The reason you need 3 Hugos is: one for yourself, one to give to hafler to appease him for insulting his speakers, and another to give to Wat, who will also be along shortly to berate you insulting his favourite source and speakers in the same sentence.
Yeah, I am sure your pulling my leg! I think my system could be worth keeping

I have a 555 for the CD's and a turn table
Yeah, but that uniti really tied the room together.

Hutter rack?
Will that improve on the frame?
Yeah, but that uniti really tied the room together.
love you for saying that...
I have access to a brand new statement system that was wrongly ordered. It is currently in Nigeria, I just need £2000 in cash to deal with customs issues and I can then send you the system FOC. Please send cash to PO Box 666 Highway to hell post office.
Kazibabes,
I think that most people have assumed that your question was not a serious one, and have responded accordingly.
If your question is a serious one, and you have inherited the equipment you have described, then the answer is simple:
Your system is very good, but what do you use as the source?. You also haven't indicated which particular Art speakers you have, but most of their range is very good (in my opinion).
I have only one complaint. My Maggies (3.6R) are certainly big, but they are also very beautiful and not at all ugly. They also sound exquisite.

I thought the Statement Amp might improve the sound, do you think I should try it?

No, your Fraim would collapse under the weight and turn into a lump of firewood.

They sound great daisy chained, ideal for your new statement

The speakers are Art Deco,s... I listen to the Radio, Vinyl and Cd,s
Now I know you are not serious.
Yes, you should buy a Statement, but you will need a pair of Magnepan speakers and at least one, preferably 2 Hugos to go with it.
