Have I got a good sound system?

Posted by: Kazibabes on 22 September 2015

I am new to this HIFI lark! Can anyone tell me if my system is any good?

The system is a Naim 552 with a 500 and a NAT - Speakers are Art

open to advise!

Charlie

I am going to see my Naim dealer tomorrow

There are also a few most knowledgeable forum members who might assist.  There is one called "Polarbear"...

Charlie

I will ask Polarbear what he thinks, thank you!

500 series and Bose cube speakers are a match made in heaven.

Asti Spumante is DOCG; they are both white, they are both sparkling, they both will make a woman laugh. One is sweet, the other brut. Asti Spumante won't give you a headache, though.

The reason you need 3 Hugos is: one for yourself, one to give to hafler to appease him for insulting his speakers, and another to give to Wat, who will also be along shortly to berate you insulting his favourite source and speakers in the same sentence.

I have a 555 for the CD's and a turn table

Now you're just showing off!

I thought the Statement Amp might improve the sound, do you think I should try it?

Looking at some of your previous posts it appears that you've heard the Statement previously at Bristol and liked it very much. If you have £100k plus to play with then fill your boots (As my old boss used to say).

So you have checked me out then? Yes I have heard the statement at Bristol and Ipswich and very impressed

So you claim to have been to two hifi shows, know what Statement is but don't know whether 555/552/500 is any good?

You were doing reasonably well up to that point

Yes, I'm a big Bauhaus collector too. I've got quite a few books about this seminal 20th-century art movement and its leading lights, including Mies van der Rohe, Hannes Meyer and of course Walter Gropius. I even once made an architectural pilgrimage to Dessau to visit this masterpiece:

On another, slightly unrelated, note, does anyone remember that ridiculous bunch of '80s Goths who misappropriated the Bauhaus name? All cheekbones and Bowie mannerisms. God, they were rubbish.

Each to their own of course, as I liked their music as a teenager.  I've still got pretty much everything they released on vinyl. Shame I no longer have a TT!

Bowie is responsible for a lot of weirdos...

Posted on: 23 September 2015 by rsch

I meant the band, however I' m also fond of the artistic movement from Weimer.

The desk in my system room is actually an Eileen Grey design.

It's not the weirdos you have to worry about, it's the talentless weirdos.

I presume this thread did not start out in Padded Cell and was modded over.

Interlopers. I've never even heard of half of you. Perfectly happy minding our own non Hi-Fi related business over here discussing...Well discussing bollocks mainly. But that's not the point. Mods please take your Hi-Fi musings elsewhere. Oh and the Statement is rubbish. I've not heard one. But I read about it. It costs too much money while there are poor people suffering out there.

Kazi should not worry his pretty little head about such things.

Now there's a sex change to add to the mix.

I've only read the first couple of posts but obviously taking the piss.

Obviously (to me) that the OP is pulling our legs here

Have I got a good sound system?

Lord knows punctuation errors abound on the forum. Maybe the OP meant to post:

"Have I got a good, sound system?"

Comma inserted for clarity.

Actually I am still learning about my equipment :-) and how it works! I really wanted to see how many of you would help a woman as ( this might sound sexist) we don't know a lot about HIFI and you seem to think we don't like it! After looking at some of the rooms at Whittlebury Hall there are more people making HIFI small to appeal to the Ladies lol

Bauhaus were wonderful & a favourite of this forum.

I think you have confused them with Joy Divison; God, they were rubbish.

Nice oven gloves though

I fear he did. Murdered by that colonel-killing terror couple I think.

I checked, and I definitely didn't confuse Murphy, Ash and co with Joy Division. The latter were a devastatingly brilliant and original band, Bauhaus were definitely a bunch of third-rate East Midlands goths who stole most of their ideas from The Dame and - oh the irony - Joy Division.

"...& even less so New Order..."

Oh, now I must wade in!

My new New Order vinyl arrived today. Feel like a teenager again. (Though where I'll find one this time of day i don't know...)

Long may Barny reign. And Stephen & Gillian. And the newer ones. Shame about Hooky but he really needs to let it lie.
