Autumn Sunlight

Posted by: TOBYJUG on 24 September 2015

Now that Autumn is here and the sun is lower in the sky , the light on a clear sunny day is not as bleached as it is in high summer     allowing the colours from the changing leaves to be enjoyed more.

My favourite time of year. There's something about a still September day. It only happens maybe once or twice every year when the conditions come together and it's hard to put into words how it makes me feel. There's a feeling of joy, nostalgia and melancholy all at the same time. A sense of being on the cusp of something, warm days and chilly evenings. A long day spent in the garden, packing away as the light falls and the dew forms. Wiping away the spider silk as you walk down through the bushes. Pure magic.

Is this a common feeling or is it just me ?

And there is a beautiful crisp moon in the sky tonight too.  Makes you appreciate what it is to be alive

September has long been my favorite time for being outdoors in the Puget Sound area. A relatively dry month and sunny days abound. The morning air is crisp and the sun is comfortably warm, but not hot. The dominant forest green slowly concedes to ephemeral scatterings of autumnal orange and yellow hues. Especially lovely in areas of eastern Washington with tamaracks. Spawning salmon lend scarlet, olive, and shades of muted purple to the streams. Local produce is at its best, with the vaunted 'Honeycrisp' apple the treasure of the season for me. These days seem to be appreciated by all, as we know the abrupt change to five months of cold, rainy winter weather is imminent at some point in October. Hopefully, late in October.

I am definitely with you on that one Redmires. I walk my dog at 6.30 most mornings and at this time of year we watch the sun rise as we go round. On cold crisp mornings like yesterday and today it truly is magical and makes me feel blessed to be alive. last year we saw a couple of wild deer and I often see buzzards stealthily flying low over fields hunting for its next meal.

Wonderful description Joerand, hope to cross the pond one day to see your lovely autumns for myself. New England is right up there as places to visit at this time of year

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness

Close bosum friend of the ever maturing sun

Cycling to work at 7.15 in the morning and there is the odd pocket of mist and the dew glistening on the meadow...
