At last a decent Jools Holland show

OK so there was still quite a bit of dross, but the show ended with the superb Unthanks and the equally stunning Polly Jean Harvey. It was worth sitting through the rest for that.

Both the Unthanks and Polly have released really good 2011 albums - even if Polly does sound like she was recorded in a big warehouse.

All the best, Guy

Vintage Trouble the previous week were also fun I thought.

I thought the one where the McCoy Tyner trio (all 4 of them) went on forever while Jools frantically tried to wave them to a halt in order to accomodate the tedious Elbow was hilarious...

Definately appreciated this band. I have bought numerous albums based on performances on this show.

I have stopped doing this as I bought too many duff albums based on just 2 strong songs, and the visual element.

I still enjoy the programme although I find the formula a bit tired, and then I check the album via Spotify before purchase.

A decent show? Yet another almost all fast forwarded one.

If that was the first time I heard PJ Harvey, I certainly wouldn't have bought any of her stuff.

Unthanks failed to engage again.

Dreadful out of tune guy with electric guitar, and yet another guy and acoustic guitar, so heard it before.

The album is superb and has an amazing version of Bob Fripp's Starless.

It is not easy to listen to, but it is rewarding.

My favourite record of this year so far (better than the new Uriah Heep elpee).

Surely one of this country's brighter talents in a landscape dominated by factor x.

It is great to see people just play without any of this choreography nonsense.

I agreed it is an acquired taste

Polly was Polly - always striving to be different.

Thought the Swedish singer was OK.

And Ringo was on too .....

Unthanks - no thanks.

God knows I have tried and they do have occasional flashes of brilliance but the funereal delivery and bizarre harmonies irritate.
