Phoebe Snow- RIP

Posted by: mlauner on 27 April 2011

Phoebe Snow had one of the most distinctive voices in modern music and sacrificed success by selflessly taking care of her daughter early in her career. She passed away yesterday at age 60 .

That is very sad. One of my favourite voices. May she be in peace.

Yes, she was a good woman and performer.   10 years ago she sang at a local street fair on Sunset Blvd.  Once I heard she was the evening act I stayed.  Wow, what a performance, she got into some blues and gospel songs and her voice was unique in a good way.

I'd heard she had a daughter with special needs and that she stayed home to care for her. Daughter died in 07.  I have that first album I'll have to look for her later ones. In an interview she laughed at how she saw David Bromberg and met him after the show with entourage.  She said "I can sing!" he said "come along, don't be shy". He got her started.  She admitted she was naive and thought the good times would keep on, but once she  started falling the "good friends" all disappeared and left her in debt. Party was all on her. At least we have her recordings to remember her by.

Terrible news, one of my favourite singers. I had hoped to see her perform one day.
