NDX Support
Posted by: Simon-in-Suffolk on 30 April 2011
Starting to muse on a budget for the NDX. Interested to hear what people are mounting their NDX on; Fraimlite, Fraim or other?. Is it sensitive to supports like the Naim CDPs are?
Thanks
Simon

Hi Simon,
Given the rest of your system, are you tempted to give the new Cyrus streamers a go ?

Basically every Audio component is sensible to what it is sitting on. I have mine on a Spider rack and it works pretty good. But if you put it on a Time Table thats incredible! If you move your naim Source from fraim rack onto a Time Table the improvement is nothing Short of incredible! I mean the fraim is already a really good rack!
So what i'm saying is that of course the source is sensible to the rack you put it on. You could also say that the naim Source components are so good that you can clearly hear the improvements the rack brings. if they didn't then maybe they would not be worth the money.

And to answer the question, I would put it on a Time Table when Funds permit.

Thanks for the replies.
James, I am not sure, hence my musing. I must admit I have just bought very cheap and cheerful Apple TV 2. It is actually rather good, certainly not true audiophile quality, but surprisingly enjoyable, and I am putting some wavs in my iTunes library to how good it can actually go. I feed it into an old Audiolab DAC that still holds it's own. I do now enjoy playing my music videos off my sever with now fairly descent sound (stereo imaging is poor, but timing and groove surprisingly good) But the experience has got me thinking about the NDX and yes the Cyrus streamers as well. I will no doubt try and audition this year at some point.

Simon, not an answer to your original posting, just an observation - you have a Naim source and Cyrus amps and myself the opposite configuration! I too am interested in the NDX, and it will be interesting to see how it stacks up against a Cyrus streamer/DAC combination.

I would never prefer Timetables over a fraim. Complete loss of PRAT, like Linn vs Naim.

I had excellent results when putting a CDX 2 on a Timetable. I compared Fraim with Timetable at my dealer and the Timetable did not kill PRaT at all.

John,
As always a matter of taste, I preferred the looks of the TimeTables but they did not do it for me. Only mids, rest died, but each to his own.
