Apple hires audio legend

There may be hope at chez Apple yet.  It appears that they have hired the famous Tomlinson Holman to work on audio related business.  Here is link to the announcement:

Could be good news on the music front but hard to tell as he was involved in surround sound work for the last 15 yrs or so.

This is probably related to the rumour that Apple wants to produce their own TVs.

He may also be handling licensing issues, e.g. AirPlay and beyond, based on his work establishing the THX standard.

Perhaps with his recent work in adding a Y axis to the front channels, we'll see positional audio for the iPad. Not surround sound, but sound as it relates to its position on the screen. Better use of quadrophonic IMO!
