How to view HDX drive in Windows
Posted by: YouAndMe on 08 May 2011
Hi,
I would like to copy ripped files of my HDX to external device. How can I see the HDX drive in Windows ? When I try to access to the folder MUSIC of the HDX I have a message explaining that I need User/Password. Where Can I change or knowing the user/Password of the HDX ?
Fimrware version 1.5.
Tx.
Just to precise/ Naim explains how the HDX can scan external Hard drive but I want to do the opposite: from mon PC, I want to see HDX files. Ie. I would like to do a saving of HDX ripped files in an external device before sending it to my distributor because of an USB malfunction. I would like to be sure that nothing will happen to my 400 GO of ripped files.
I have setup the Domaine of my network domain to NAIM but windows says to me when I try to look at the Music folder that I do not have Adm/Password.
What Can I do. I do not want to Transfert of my CS BOX (400 GO) to a NAS and oblige after a copy to transfert again from the NAS to the HDX.
If I can have access through Windows then I can do a copy directly.
Many thanks in advance for your help.
Emmanuel.
Hi Emmanuel,
Not sure how it works in Windows (not used Windows in years), but on my Mac I can access and copy HDX files even if I log in as a "Guest" (that is, no password required). You will find detailed instructions on how to back up your music and the HDX database by referring to section 2.9 in the latest HDX manual.

Hi!
I assume you have a dual 500GB HDX.
There has been an issue with the permissions set to the music folder in 1.5a on these units.
Best is to upgrade to 1.5a sp2 supplied by Naim on the HDX ressource page. This update should as well set the permissions for this folder correctly.
The HDX will then show as network device identifying itself by its player name NSHDX plus last four letters of the HDX's mac address. You can then copy tracks of the internal HDX drive to any location you like. Note you can only copy music back to the HDX from the internal software in the unit (manage music > move music)
Hope that helps.
Adrian
HI Kilo,
Thanks. I have upgraded to 1.5a sp2.
I can se the HDX in Windows as a Netwrok device. But when I try to access on it a Logon / Password is required. I have tried with no user/password and it doesn't work.
The HDX needs a logon/Password to be accessed ?
Note that in the Media device; through Windows Media Players I can see now all the music file riped on the HDX I can read them but I can't copy them.
I would like to copy from HDX to External Hard drive...
As posted before:
You can not copy files ripped to the HDX hard drive!
Don't try to mess with the HDX internals. If you want a backup of your music, maybe it's an idea to move it to a music store and create a backup from there...
Regards,
Michel
OK
So I have to transfer 400GB to my Computer. Copy files from my PC to an external device and after that transfer again from the PC to the HDX.
(...).
Thanks you for your help.
In the situation where it is not possible to use the Move Music functionality on the server (which requires a fully-functioning network setup and appropriate Music Store creation of a network sharepoint):
Create a folder on your PC called Music. Share this folder on the network with full read / write permissions for all users.
Inside that Music folder, create three folders, HQ, MQ, and LQ.
Mount the HDX's internal music sharepoint (also named Music)–no password is required for access, nor is it necessary that you are on the same workgroup. Open the MQ folder–you should see a long list of Artist names, as folders.
Copy the contents of the MQ folder on the HDX ( NSHDXxxxx\Music\MQ )into the MQ folder on your PC (pcname\pathname\... \MQ.
Just map the network drive on your computer, the permissions allow copying but not deleting. So once you have mapped the drive on your HDX, browse amd copy, simples!
You can on the UnitiServe, so I'm not sure at all that this is correct. You cannot write to the folder that the files get ripped to, but you can copy from it.

David, I don't think I was able to connect at all to the uServe's files unless/until I changed the workgroup on the computer to "Naim" But you clearly have a lot more experience with this stuff than I do.
Bart, this trend is 2 years old. Things have changed a lot since then: David has gone away from the HiFi business, the software is now 1.6d... soon 1.7 ![]()

WHOOPS I am sorry -- I did not realize that this thread was so old. My bad as we say States'-side!
I am looking forward to 1.7 ![]()
