Probably Pink Floyd's last big chance to milk the punters before their early stuff starts to fall outside copyright protection.

But I do find it depressing to see quite how rapacious these bands - make that 'brands' - have become.

Roger is remastering his solo vinyl for release later this year.

Thats a good thing imo.

Stops people having to pay silly money for his second hand vinyl.

If the Floyd were to do that with all their vinyl, or even just re-release them i would be happy.

Again it would stop people having to pay very stupid money for their second hand vinyl.

Actually, in the "Immersion" and "Experience" editions of The Wall, DSOTM and WYWH there is some absolutely tremendous stuff in the form of rarities and unreleased material. The "Immersion" boxes are about £90 a pop, the "Experience" one at £12 or so seem immensely good value.

And there will be new editions of all 14 albums on vinyl too...

For once the Floyd and EMI deserve a bit of credit for releasing the kind of stuff fans have been requesting for ages...

They are all listed for Pre-order on HMV now.

No vinyl though.

Piper at the Gates of Dawn is the only one that really interests me - I've got most of the others  - well I've got Piper about 5 fives times, but a new well pressed vinyl edition would be good - shame there is still no official release of Vegetable Man, Scream Thy Last Scream, Reaction in G, One in a Million. Lucy Leave, I'm a King Bee and She Was A Millionaire. They really were good in 60s.

They are only doing the proper Pink Floyd albums, so PATGOD won't be there!

Posted on: 13 May 2011 by Guido Fawkes

That's entirely up to them, but I'd buy a nice vinyl pressing of PATGOD, possibly even SFOS, and a re-mastered Magnesium Proverbs, but I'm not about to go and buy DSOTM again - one copy was more than enough: it is not a bad album, but heard it too often.

I feel a kerching moment coming on. If they really wanted to do anything with their unrelased stuff then they could do a bootleg series ala Dylan. Why remaster albums for the umpteenth time where they not good enough the last time Doug Sax did them.

The 'Dark Side of the Moon' and 'Wish You Were Here' between releases have the BBC recording of the 1974 Wembley show, which is pretty good, early version of Animals tracks too.

eg. from the 'Wish You Were Here' set (s) bot the Immersion and 2 disc.

  • 1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-6) [Live At Wembley November 1974 - Previously Unreleased]
  • 2. Raving & Drooling [Live At Wembley November 1974 - Previously Unreleased]
  • 3. You've Got To Be Crazy [Live At Wembley November 1974 - Previously Unreleased]
  • 4. Wine Glasses [From The Unreleased 'Household Objects' Project]
  • 5. Have A Cigar [Previously Unreleased Alternative Version]
  • 6. Wish You Were Here-Feat. Stephane Grappelli [Previously Unreleased]
  • There are some other unreleased versions too, things live the early live versions of the instrumentals from 'Dark Side..'.

'The Wall' set doesn't have anything live that hasn't been released before, but does have the demo version of the album. I will not be tempted by that as I don't like the album, but the other two look pretty good.

Pity they haven't done the same for 'Animals' with live recordings from the 1977 tour on which the performances were excellent, judging by the bootlegs - none of any great sound quality unfortunately.

Together with the latest Pearl Jam re-issue box set, it looks like a lot of this years music spending will be on nicely packaged extras rather than new music, but since little new music interests me at the moment it is no problem.

I would agree wth the miking on the latest Miles Davis releases though, the only extras on the 'Kind of Blue' box set were talking between the takes, and a bit of tuning up.

Jamie,

I would loved to of seen a offering of the 1977 Animals tour also.

I was at the gig at Wembley Pool.

Straight into the Animals album from start to finish then the same with Wish You Were Here.

Fantastic show.

G

So was I and it was wonderful! Unfortunately my abiding memory was that having bought one of the really cool t-shirts with the fuzzy pig on the front, upon returning home from college the following holidays, only for a week, my mother managed to wash the t-shirt with the loss of all the fuzz!! I was devestated!!
