Tidal next week..

Posted by: Fueller on 29 September 2015

So Tidal has now been announced for Naim Streamers / Muso to the delight of many here I'm sure.

This wasn't a necessity for me but I'd be silly not to take advantage of the 3 month free trial and potentially cancel the spotify sub.

Thoughts?

But the update is still not available on the official web page?

That's correct - someone worked out that by changing 4.3 in the original URL to 4.4 they could access it directly - we have now changed that so that you can't get to it - the software has not yet been released!

Still no login to the Tidal account via the Naim app posible. Login via browser on PC works fine. Anybody else with this problem? Any solutions around?

The TIDAL software update for our products has not been released yet...

What??? Please explain. I have 4.4.0.0 installed on my superunity this morning!

Posted on: 06 October 2015 by Phil Harris

We have not yet released the *UPDATE* for existing devices yet ... have you updated your unit from the link that someone discovered (which was not live)?

I'm running 4.4 (I'm part of the beta team) and can assure you that Tidal login works fine. You need to close the old app, install the new one from the App Store and it will work.

First of all I got the file from the German site via pdf. The link did not work. Howerver, with copy and paste I managed to retrieve the file just by completing the .zip file ending.

Now, 4.4.0.0 is running fine and Tidal is part of the system. The app got updated yesterday and also has Tidal integrated but without the ability to log in. Therefore, to what "new" app are you referring to?

The software update is officially not yet released? What is the holding back? Will there be another version, than the one I have installed?

Very curious, all that...

If you got yesterday's app (4.6) it has the Tidal login link. I set it all up here this very morning.

Posted on: 06 October 2015 by dukeofhazard

Yes indeed, but still no login possible. Maybe there must be some form of registration in a naim database, which is not "live" and running, yet.

Hi,

At this time the 4.4.0 software has not been officially released to the public ... there should be no-one downloading the updater and using it ... if A.N.Other site has published links to it then they have jumped the gun and gone early with it.

Edited to add : It looks like the German Distributors - Musicline - have gone live with their own copy of it before we have officially gone live with it ... I've raised this with the powers that be here as it should not have been made available for download yet.

Ok, Phil, but what is the consequence for me now? Anyway, the other side somewhat "disabled" the link in the pdf just by leaving out the last to letters of the .zip-file. I thought this is just an error -- and corrected it accordingly.

Do I have to reinstall the "official" update, or do I leave it at that?

Thanks for your help...

I logged on and started the 90 day  trial this AM.

It seems to work OK had a couple of early finishes to some tracks. Sound is fine I think the local source is slightly better, not sure what Tidal offers over and above other systems , my brief acquaintance seems to show a limited amount of albums for some of my selected Artists.

More time to use it is required, I think.

What version of the Naim App are you using? Android or iOS? The Android version hasn't gone live yet (as the 4.4 software update hasn't gone live yet).

The Android and iOS apps are to be updated first - then you can use the Tidal login facility that is added by the 4.4 software (which goes live later on in the day).

Hi Phil !

I also used the "trick" to change the number on the download link on the official Naim page (from 4.3 to 4.4) because I thaught that the link on the official page contained a mistake:

The NDX is working fine after the upgrade and when i link to the NDX with my browser the informations are:

Firmware version: 2.0.68.13731

Frimware date: 2015-09-15

Should I upgrade again when the official link is available ?

Thanks

Yes - until the *OFFICIAL* release then it is possible that files may still change.

It's now asking if I want to retry but I'm not sure, so I'm waiting on Naim Customer Support calling me back. At the moment: no streamer

Hi,

Sorry that you're having update issues - we have tested the updater on El Capitan here and it has been fine.

Retrying is fine ... but if the update still fails then can you please contact us for support directly as per the sticky at the top of the forum and then perhaps we can identify what is happening in your instance? (support@naimaudio.com)

Please give details of what device you are trying to update, what firmware it is on already, how it is connected to your network (wired, WiFi, Ethernet Over Mains etc.).

Thanks

Phil

Thanks for your help Phil. My ND5 XS was connected by Ethernet Over Mains. You suggested I plug in directly to the router which meant switching off my unit prior to the upgrade completing which made me quite nervous! Anyway it all started up again without a problem and I tried the upgrade again as suggested but unfortunately it failed again in the same place. So I've aborted the upgrade until the Mac official release is out, minus the El Capitan bug, later this week. The good news is that my ND5 XS still seems to be fully functional even though the upgrade had not completed.

Don't know if this helps: In the past my ND5 XS upgrade failed when using a fixed IP address.  Since then I always configure it to DHCP temporarily and then back to a fixed IP after the upgrade is successful.

Thanks. I've upgraded a couple of times before without any problem. And apparently there is a bug in the Mac version of the upgrade which is why it hasn't been officially released. I'll just hang on until the official release now, grateful that I haven't bricked my unit! Apparently it worked fine with the El Capitan beta, but not the actual release due to some arcane Apple security issue.

Updaters should be available for download now ... all as planned.

Well done to the team here - good work guys.

Hi Graeme,

Download the *PROPER* Mac updater and you should be OK ... the one that you had been pointed at wasn't final.

That flurry this morning of people pulling down one they'd managed to link to caused us a bit of a panic as we hadn't been seeing the issue but that package you were using was out of date.

Can I just say Phil I think you've been extremely patient and understanding to all those who have 'jumped the gun' on the official release.....

The web site still has the link to 4.3 rather than 4.4, where I'm looking anyway!
