Naim NDX - thank you very much I shall…

So I have bought myself an ex-demo Naim NDX (thank you Henry and James @ TomTom) which hopefully will be arriving on Friday.
Having wanted one of these since they arrived in stores, I am really quite looking forward to it and know it will be a significant upgrade to my Logitech Squeezebox Touch/Beresford DAC combo…
The interesting thing will be how it measures up to my CDX2, I have read a couple of mixed reviews, some favouring the CDX2 and others favouring the NDX… Looking forward to the comparison.
Paul.
Nice purchase Paul ... enjoy.
Paul, congratulations - you'll also enjoy system automation (assuming you have a naim preamp or integrated), and the free trial with tidal integration from next week.
Never heard a CDX2 but my NDX is a good step up from the CD5 I was using.
Enjoy!
Prefer the NDX myself, but have fun finding out what you think. Personally, I'd be inclined to sell one and use the money towards an XPS, but there you go...
Purchased an ex demo NDX myself a couple of moths ago superb piece of kit, streaming in flac from a NAS is excellent in fact my Naim cd player is gathering dust!
Congrats to a great piece of kit. I don't know how it compares to the CDX2.. But, I can tell you this; you will rediscover your music collection and if you're going to use the digital inputs, eveeeerything will be very nice :-)
Thanks everyone - I'll keep you updated ![]()
Ok so have had the NDX now for a few weeks and I can honestly say it is probably one of the best single purchases I have ever made.
To my ears it surpasses the CDX2 by quite some margin, the sound coming out of this machine is just so special.
There is so much depth to the sound, with each instrument clearly spaced and detailed, it's just a triumph.
The interesting thing is that I have only used the CDX2 once since I bought the NDX and that was to compare the two, so I am now seriously considering moving on the CDX2.
Paul.
My system is (for your information)
Naim NDX - Streamer
Naim CDX2 - CD Player
Exposure XVII - Pre Amplifier
Exposure XVIII - Power Amplifier
Focal Electra 1028Be - Loudspeakers
Naim A5 Speaker Cable
Mixture of Chord, Cable Talk, Russ Andrews and TCI cables
Alphason 5-tier stand (1990's vintage)

Paul, glad you are enjoying your NDX. I also have the NDX and CDX2 and quite frankly I find them very different sonically, both with their strengths and weaknesses, but I possibly favour the CDX2 on rock and pop... However if your system has both you can pick and choose as you see fit. BTW I use a Hilne with the CDX2 which is worth a try. Works equally well with NDX.. However I am using a Naim preamp.

I choose NDX to replace my much respected CDX2 but only after three listening sessions both at dealer & home.
The CDX2 is a super player, made more so with a XPS that is now powering the NDX. Its very much up front rock & roll, whereas the NDX is more refined with more detail in all respects including sound stage; the CDX2 sound stage is very much front row stalls, the NDX is front row circle.
Hi Paul, I did the same hardware change in Aug and your findings match mine exactly - love my NDX into a QNAP NAS/Minim. Found I've been listening to more music I'd forgotten I had but I must resist the temptation to jump between tracks.
I had been saying the NDX was like having a meal nicely laid out in front of you whereas the CDX2 was like a custard pie in the face but Mike-B's theatre analogy works better.
If you love it now, wait until you stick an XPSdr on it.
Is there any "revised" version of NDX coming out soon ? It's has been so many years already.
I very much doubt it as I don't see that there is much to revise & especially so as the firmware has the ability to be revised. The NAC-N272 has not added new or taken streamer technology much further & I would have thought that if any of the existing players needed updating it would be the turn of older server/players like HDX

on a scale from 1 to 10,
if CDX2/XPS2 is a 7, what is NDX/XPS2 to you or they are incomparable due to sound nature/characteristics ?
Sound is subjective so my engineering logic can't equate a scale, if pushed I would say the CDX2 is like a good rock band, add a XPS makes it a great rock band. The NDX is more smooth jazz & adding a XPS gives it something better - but not the significant upgrade as does the XPS with CDX2
