Five Years (1969 - 1973) - David Bowie

Any feedback on this now it's been out for a while? I'm particularly interested in the high-res downloads available but loathed to commit unless the remastering is a genuine improvement as I have all the material already.

There is a very long thread on this over at the Steve Hoffman forum.

For the cds - in a nut shell the remastering and sound for The Man Who Sold the World, Hunky Dory and Pin-Ups is apparently excellent. Ziggy and Aladdin Sane are not very good, having used remasters from a few years ago, which are generally unloved. Space Oddity though good seems to suffer form tape drop outs and glitches. This may or may not grate depending on ones particular OCD level.

I suspect the HD downloads will have a similar outcome. Shame you can't buy individual titles with the download.

years after it was out I bought Ziggy and saw the note to PLAY IT LOUD so I did on my roomie's new stereo.  He had come home in the garage and the house was shaking so he stayed in the basement.

I have Changes One and play it for a friend who comes over and helps me clean my apartment at the end of work. Bowie is one of his faves and he hums and sings along.

My folks  moved to Detroit in 73 when I took off for college, when I got home for holidays and one summer Panic In Detroit was played every 2 hours on the radio.
