Dead pixels on UQ2 display
Posted by: Andy Barratt on 30 September 2015
You need to speak to your dealer and get it fixed under warranty.
You could call Naim customer support, have your serial no handy, and see what they say about fixing the problem under their warranty. But you will need a dealer to send it to them and even if Naim repair for nothing, you will need to pay the dealer their charge for handling the return. My experience from returning a friend's CDX2 for repair is that the dealer charged about £65 and then Naim charged for the repair, but all in all it was not an unreasonable amount in my opinion.
Or you could decide you could live with some dead pixels (which is almost certainly what I would do myself).

Same with my unit qute v1 but the 192 version that's about 2.5 years old. i contacted Naim, parts covered for five years but labour only for the first two years, warranty registered in my name.
When I get round to it I will probably contact Darren at Class A
Also my mine started with a few pixels out but now you can hardly read the display.
Did you leave the screen on for long periods ???
Screen on 24/7
I know it's not related and it's a hardware failure but the display was tip top before the latest firmware and probably just coincidence, Andy is your Qute running the latest revision?
Screen on 24/7
I think thats your problem, these screens all have a limited life. I read recently they have a life of not much more than 2 years with 24/7. I'm not familiar with UQ2, can you set it to off after a selectable time period ??
I have my NDX set for 2 minutes, it could be 10 seconds. I don't actually look at the screen unless I'm working on something that only the screen shows, all my input & album selection is done with iPad.
See what you mean Mike, sorry my screen is on 24/7 date/time but auto off after 2 min which is the default on my UQ
I'm a bit confuzzed HiFiman ........ I'vejust looked up the UQ2 manual
Auto Off: Select time from list - I assume your post means this is set at 2 mins (default)
But whatabout
Clock When Off: - do you mean you have this on all the time ??
Logo Off: - what about this
Sorry Mike I have man flu at the moment so my head isn't right
front display settings
off during mute - yes
auto off - 2 min
clock when off - yes
logo off - if muted
logo mute - yes
Looks like the screen is faulty, it's so dim you can hardly read the screen plus the odd pixel is out.
I think clock when off - yes- means its display on 24/7
I'm surprised Naim have not been more cautious on that one
Seems that way especially if the life span of the display is around 2 years. Thankfully the part is covered for five years just need to find out the labour cost and the hardest part, parting with the Qute for a few weeks!!

Yes I am, but then I always have had the latest as I've only had the UQ for maybe 3 months, and it had the newest FW already installed.

I don't keep mine on 24/7 - but I have it set to auto-off (no clock) after 45 mins I think? I must admit my eyebrow arched when I realised it was an OLED display, because I think history showed through the 00's that such displays were prone to dimming relatively quickly in their lifespans. But anyway.
I've been in touch with Naim via email so we'll see what happens. As it's a UQ2, they're obviously all under five years old, so even though they don't know my serial at this point, they should have some ideas about next steps. I asked if it was something they'd seen before etc too.
Very annoying though. I think I will end up changing so it turns off much quicker in future.
Keep us posted interested to find out how much the labour is going to be !!!
If the part lasts two years and we keep the Qute I guess we will be going through the same old rigmarole again just before the parts warranty runs out.
