Speaker outputs - niggling me

Posted by: MarkiMark on 03 October 2015

Hi. I am new to the forum so am allowed one stupid question. I have recently bought a Unitilite. The speaker outputs on the back are marked very clearly 'Left' and 'Right'. I know this might sound stupid, but why are they logically the wrong way round? The 'Left' speaker connection is on the right as you look at it from the front and the 'Right' speaker connection is on the left. Not a problem I know except that it means the speaker cables have to cross each other to get to their respective speaker.

I did think for a moment that, Naim being British and the kind of company that can have a CD eject button marked 'Stop', they might have a perverse idea of what constitutes right and left, or maybe when they marked the connections they were stood behind looking forward, in which case I've got my speakers wired up wrong.

It's a Naim tradition, from the days when the "back" of the professional amp with the connectors was at the front.  It's also a useful remainder that placing the kit between the speakers is not the best practice, ideally it would off to the side with nothing between the speakers at all.

My superuniti is behind me, therefore the speaker cables are correct left and right!
