NDX seems dead, help needed

Posted by: Thomas Breding on 03 October 2015

Hi!

just came back after a two week holiday. Left my system unplugged during our trip and when I came back I plugged everything in again and all units lit up as always.

The NDX display came on and the NDX letters showed up. Then the network initializion started and then the display turned black. Nothing happened after that...

I used the remote but got no response whatsover. Checked the app on my iPad but the NDX player does not show up. Restarted a number of times with the same result. Nothing happens when I push the buttons on the NDX (except that the green light works on the button I press).

When I press the settings button on the remote, the arrows and the list button lights up on the NDX but nothing more happens.

Is there some way of resetting the NDX or am I forced to take it to the dealer? Or is it only a display issue?

Mayday mayday...

Sounds like it can't find the network

Is it ethernet wired or wireless

Is it & the NAS connected to an ISP wireless hub,  or is the network centred on a switch

It is wired and through a switch. When I have had network issues before the display have still been working. The fact that it is all black is what confuses and worries me...

OK I am also concerned with the screen,  but before all that I would try a reboot of everything & do all the restarts in the following order.

First leave the wireless hub off for 10 mins to be sure the ISP server knows you are off.

Wireless hub & let it complete its restart completly

NAS & let it complete its restart

NDX - don't do anything but the screen should say its looking for the network

Switch.

See what the scren is doing on the panel button commands - input, OK/List etc

Normally I would be going for a factory settings reset at this point,  but if the screen scripts are not illuminating,  I don't know how to do that.

Try the reboot & I will put thinking hat on & see if their is something somewhere else

This does not sound like regular behaviour. If you can't go into setup mode with the remote, (but do try a power cycle, having been off for 10 mins first)  then I suspect Salisbury awaits, or at least a call to Naim support on Monday.

Thanks a lot for the replies. Good news is that overnight, the NDX showed up in the app and is now playing. Bad news is that the display is still totally black so I will call my dealer tomorrow.

But at least I can listen to music, always something!

Ah ha,  good news indeed & what I was hoping would happen after the sequenced restart.

I suspect the dealer will find its a simple connection ribbon cable needing to be refitted - assuming that is the dealer has the ability to do this.

...update:

Since the display started acting strange it has worked again from time to time (after restart) but last week I noticed a new thing; only the upper half of the "NDX logo" showed up at startup and then display was dead again which felt even more weird than the all dead display I had before.

Today I finally had the time too take it to my dealer. He plugged it in and of course the display worked perfect...

We unplugged, took the NDX apart and reconnected the display connector just in case. Tested again with the same result. Success!

Drove back home and plugged in ad set down waiting for it to start. No display........... Arrrrgggghhhh.

Tested another power cable. Then unconnected and tested another power outlet. Then moved it to another part of the apartment and plugged it in there, still dead.

Next stop Salisbury I guess.
