nait 3 to nap 90 conversion

Posted by: Becks on 05 October 2015

Hi,

I want to convert an old Nait 3 to a power amp.

I know Naim used to supply a conversion kit years ago with parts and instructions,

I searched on ebay and found none.

Anyone knows where can I get the instructions for this? Maybe someone has a them?

Has anyone done this conversion and can explain the process? I know it shouldn't be too complex...

Thanks

 Benny

There used to be a kit to convert certain Nait3s to a NAC92 pre-amp.  You should talk to your dealer or Naim's service dept.  Any DIY discussion is not allowed on this forum.

OK, I wasn't aware of that, sorry.

I don't think there is an official dealer where I live, I could ask one of the shops to contact Naim for me.

Do you know if Naim still supplies theses kits?

Thanks

The Nait3/Nait2 kits made them into  pre-amps only - no power amp

Becks, you will need to ask Naim.  FWIW, what you want is possible if you are using a late NAIT 3/3R.  This can provide the extra socket you need, otherwise, as Brilliant says, the kit only converts to a pre-amp.

Otherwise you're better off selling the NAIT 3 and buying a NAP90 and perhaps pocketing a little money along the way.

My old Nait 3 was converted by my old Dealer with the extra sockets. The preamp section was powered with a Flatcap 2 then return back into the power amp section of the Nait 3. I think this is similar to the configuration of a Nait 5.
