where is the 4.4 update?

Posted by: Partcloudy on 06 October 2015

I can't see the 4.4 update. Problems?

Posted on: 06 October 2015 by solwisesteve

Update done smoothly after routing around for 10  mins to find my USB cable - put somewhere safe!

I also learnt from last time to reboot the NAS... don't know why I have to do that.

Not sure if I'll be rushing to do the Tidal sign up though.

Agree - really simple especially after burning discs for the HDX! Not fussed about Tidal - more about bug fixes really not that I had any real issues in the first place. Nice job Naim and once again, patience is a virtue! Managed to do my Qute and Lite in next to no time.

On my NAC-N 272

All installed and very happy to say that I'm enjoying the Free 3 month Tidal offer as I write (Dexter Gordon's album 'Ballads').  Impressed tbh and I'd like to say thank you Naim!

It's really brilliant, hadn't appreciated the buffering was also utilised in the solution which resolves the occasional drop out issues was getting tidal via a laptop.

I realise there here are many valid reasons for the silence on the development of this which was frustrating at times.

BTW - Tidal need to add Naim to their streamers page ! I hope this partnership is good for Naim as well as your customers.

Is it really true (as claimed in the update guide) that you have to reset the streamer to Factory Settings after successful installation of the update?

It's always recommended to do so after a firmware update but if you decide not to then there's nothing that we can do to make you...

That has not been true in my case the last two updates. The update application the very last thing it does and it says so right on the screen is resetting to factory defaults and the unit is reset to exactly how it came out of the box, there is nothing that you can do to stop it at least either time I have done it. As I had said in a previous post, I am not griping, as this really was a terrific upgrade and exceeded my expectations esp in how well Tidal is integrated in the iOS app, but that is certainly the case when I did it on a NAC-N 272 using a MacBook Pro

thanks Phil

I was just asking myself, how long it would take me to re-enter all my settings (my dealer did the setup)

Btw: do you have plans to come up with a Streamer self-update where there is no computer and cable and separate software install needed? Actually, I was somewhat expecting the same update procedure like e.g. on iOS.

thanks

Loaded update to Naim app on iPad and 4.4 firmware upgrade yesterday. All fine but now every time I go to the Naim app it asks if I want to auto adjust clock to daylight savings despite having set this on via uniti2 front panel. Bug or just me?

Posted on: 07 October 2015 by Bart

I noticed that on this last update, I did not need to re-enable the setting to control volume on my SN2 with the NDS.  Although the screen says 'resetting to factory defaults,' this remained active.  Different than in the past.

The last few times I've upgraded the software, all my settings (which connections are on or off, IP address, presets etc) have all remained completely unchanged.

Regarding how the update is done, it seems that the wired connection is necessary, but as it's only 20 minutes twice a year it's hardly a hardship.

That's not the case with me & I believe for everyone,  yes it says its doing factory defaults, & it may well be doing so, but it does not loose the user settings.  I've done a bunch of updates as part of the beta team over the last year & only one update that included the BBC HLS iRadio change required a manual factory reset,  & although I'd forgotten how the settings logic tree worked,  it took a few more minutes.

It does a full factory reset and reboot on the 272. Input names everything are cleared out after the upgrade.

I know I lost system automation at one point . . . because it took me a while to re-remember how to turn it back on the right way

Posted on: 07 October 2015 by Mike-B

Just for the hell of it & because I said in a previous post that my NDX does not factory reset as part of a firmware update,  I did a factory reset to remind myself what's involved !!!!

Yuk, a PITA & if its not needed, then lets leave it that way.  Whatever it was a good refresher exercise & I took the time to rename some stuff like the NDX display & the over-long iRadio pre-set names,

Maybe if Phil Harris sees this post he can tell us what a factory reset actually does after a firmware update,  it does not appear to change anything that's visible.

A factory reset obviously sets all the device settings (accessed via the front panel) to their factory defaults but it also clears out the areas of non-volatile data used by the Spotify Connect and Tidal code (to which we have no direct access).

Spotify and Tidal both provide us with core modules which we incorporate into the device code but which we have no access to ... Certainly with Spotify we know that sometimes their code can need it's memory flushing out and obviously a firmware update is the time when an old version of code would be overwritten with new and hence flushing their non-volatile stores at that time is generally a good thing,

Phil, I'm confused by this. When I got my 272 I turned off lots of inputs, fixed the IP address and a couple of other things. None of this has been altered by the two or three updates I've since done. These are changes made via the front panel and yet none have been reset to the defaults. Am I missing something?

Posted on: 07 October 2015 by Mike-B

I'm obliged Phil. as I am sure are others who are interesting.

Have you replied "No" when the app asks you? If you have then it shouldn't ask you again...

...in that case then you *CAN'T* have done a "Reset To Defaults" from the front panel of the 272 as that would clear those settings.

(The Streamer Updater itself doesn't do a full factory reset.)

This is the source of the confusion, I think, Phil.  There is a message at the end of the update process about 'factory settings' .

Posted on: 07 October 2015 by Donkeyhaute

I'm pretty sure my 4.4 firmware update performed some species of 'reset' on my SU. I had to go back in and rename inputs, turn off unused inputs and outputs,  and turn off the internal amplification (after a sweaty 20 seconds wondering why no sound was coming out of the speakers via my NAP 250). It did this automatically during the firmware update (i.e., I didn't press anything in a dialog box confirming that I wanted it to do this).

That aside, thanks very much for incorporating Tidal and updating the DSD code again. It sounds great and is now very easy yo use via the iPad Naim app.  Good job.

Perhaps this is just a cautionary message to prompt the user to check their bespoke settings along the same lines as the message to check the unit's basic functionality before putting it back into the system (assuming you've disconnected it from your hi fi to do the upgrade).

My own experience is that my own saved settings don't change with the exception that, for some reason mutiroom seems to be reenabled following a firmware upgrade but then I do have a UQ2 in addition to my NDS.
