Upgrade Report -

Posted by: DUPREE on 06 October 2015

Finished the upgrade on the NAC-N 272. Tidal is now working swimmingly. The sound quality is very good, it is not as good as a high res digital recording, but comparable to extremely good CD playback but not the very very top tier CD. I agree the main thing that keeps it from that is it seems base loaded, however detail is good, it is absolutely very enjoyable and listenable... Upgrade process was not bad at all, however I do wish they would come up with a way to upgrade that does not wipe out all your settings/input names etc. This is a small grievance that is very insignificant in the context of how nice this upgrade is. The integration of Tidal with the App is just fantastic, better than spotify and better than how Linn does Tidal, it is like it is completely part of the app, seamlessly integrated.. Overall outstanding work I give NAIM an A+ on this one..  I don't even deduct points for the factory setting reset, because it really in the end delivers everything being asked of for Tidal support and more.

Agreed for the later points,  but I wonder why so many peeps are noting Tidal is not as good as their local network NAS or USB.

If Tidal - at best FLAC 16/44,  sometimes AAC - was to be better than your own NAS quality after whizzing around the planet thru zillions of km of up/down satellite links, microwave links, fibre & copper,  I would be pretty amazed.

I'm impressed with Tidal SQ - considering the above SQ limitations - I would be more impressed if they had more/better jazz & classical.
