Speakers for NAP 250 DR
Posted by: pz on 06 October 2015
Could you recommend me a pair of speakers that have definitely
very good leading edge attack and punch.
Once I had a pair of SL2 but it did not do for me and my room (was bass shy)
but I liked their "character". Ovator range seems to big for my room which is
3 x 5.5 meters.
Budget is around GBP 4000.
Thx in advance.
I demo'd Sonus Faber Cremonas before finally selecting SL2s. Enjoyed both for different reasons/recordings but the Cremonas didn't suit my room size. No regrets buying the SL2s but just a thought for you.
BTW - also tried ProAc D28(or D30 perhaps?) at the same time - didn't find them very exciting to be honest.
I'm using Kudos C20's with a NAP 250DR and the combination works really well.
I've just upgraded from a NAP 200 and whilst good, the speakers ruthlessly showed up a lack of refinement in the NAP 200 whereas the 250 is much smoother and refined.
Depends upon your room and space - the Kudos S20 is an obvious but I would also look at Neat and Dynaudio. I've just taken delivery of my 250DR and it's singing with my Dyn 1.8s.
S400 should fit ![]()
the room isn't too small for the Ovators. I'd say it's worth trying them out.

As usual ATC speakers work a treat with the more powerful Naim amps, and probably provide one of the best punches (dynamic clout) with great treble refinement of most speakers mentioned here on the forum that I have heard..
ATC SCM 19s and 40s go well with the 250

Probably better to get speakers that have only two terminals instead of four as you can not get a bona fida SL jumper.., if you think you might end up there.
otherwise for four grand with your amp the worlds your mussel. Plenty of recommendations from users of all the most popular speakers that are a known match. If you can go the extra mile try and find a dealer who can let you have a listen to Reference 3A Veena. Plenty of reviews and information on the web . Plenty of directly coupled sound of music and room with me.
