Fraim - how can the impact be described
Posted by: Bert Schurink on 07 October 2015
All I might consider an upgrade from a normal rack into a Fraim - can anybody describe the sonic benefits. Is it comparable to a box upgrade (f.i. XPS to 555PS) ?
It's a bit like a box upgrade, in that you'll get a similar step change, but it's also different, as it makes everything sound better, clearer and more natural, and music is just nicer. The extent of the improvement will depend on what you use at the moment. When I first got Fraim, I borrowed a few levels and set them up in front of my rack. All I did was move my then CDS3 onto the Fraim, but that was enough to demonstrate to me the benefits. You need to bear in mind that Fraim is a bit fiddly to set up and a nightmare to dust, and that after about three and six months you need to take it all apart and tighten it up. After that, it should stay set without further tightening other than an annual system strip down. With the kit you have, you owe it to yourself to at least try it.
Thanks for the feedback so far. It will depend a bit on the fact if I now can afford it given the deal. Otherwise it will need to come on the long term to buy list.
It seemed to "clean up" the presentation, kind of simplifying it which actually led to more definition and detail being revealed. We were looking for something to stand the components on and were not expecting anything marked. We were pleasantly surprised compared to QS standard shelving. Box upgrade? Well, it does come in a nice box but I've put that in the loft.
We use the Fraim and have done for many years. We still have Projekt and Mana in different systems. We also have tried Hutter and Quadraspire. I don't like the last two for sound reasons. I consider the Fraim to be an essential product, it is smooth like wooden stands and dynamic and rhythm I like Mana. I don't exaggerate but it is excellent from mid level systems and upwards.

Cleaner more neutral sound and removal of 'noise'.
Bass darker, cleaner and weightier.
These are the main things. Fraim is not perfect, but seems best for Naim equipment - surprise! ![]()
I like the flexibility to add and configure as required as your system may change over time.
I also echo what HH says about maintenance - the main re-tighten is only once ofter a few months as the wood shrinks a little.

Hi Bert
My contribution is in a thread " It's been emotional......" , should you wish to break into the SEARCH BOX In the top left corner ( those were the days,eh?) . ATB Peter
Also doubles the price but that is to be expected.

The Fraim is a greater value the more Naim boxes you have. It sounds much better than a box upgrade to me. It also looks so good set up that your wife will profess to hear the difference, too. Just do it. You won't be sorry.
Also doubles the price but that is to be expected.

Did I? I've never suggested a Sonority shelf to anyone, and would know one if I tripped over it.....
