Mu-so - Tidal Release
Posted by: Trevor Wilson on 08 October 2015
hi all
I felt it important to share an update on the Mu-so new firmware release.
At the 11th+ hour, we discovered a low incidence yet nasty bug via some members of the beta forum (thank beta team!). We decided not to release without resolving this bug. The engineering teams and the beta forum are working on this actively to resolve the issue as fast as possible whilst being mindful that all use cases are checked before release.
As such, given its almost the weekend, I can say that the release definitely will not take place this week nor over the weekend, as we feel its better to a) be sure its right and b) ensure that when we go live with the release we can support our customers properly..
I most sincerely apologise for the delay, and i wish to assure you that the R&D team and many others in Naim are working extremely hard to resolve and confirm resolution.
I'll be in touch again to update you on progress as we go
Trevor
Further update. We have a new beta in test that initial testing indications are positive. The beta forum will have this for the weekend, plus Naim personnel are working to check it also.
I'll keep you updated

Quality First, I like that :-)
Just to understand, will there be an improvement streaming Tidal with Mu-so with the new app?
Right now we are streaming Tidal with Ipad and Imac over WiFi with Mu-so and it sounds quite amazing. In my technical understanding there are just 0 and 1 to be send.
With Spotify we have no noticable difference in SQ going direct or via airplay/wifi.
Best regards
Jorg
Will the firmware update show up in the app when it's available ?
hi john,
yes the firmware will appear in the app as available
hi Nooner,
I personally prefer it direct to the mu-so not via airplay.
Trevor
Good Job Gents, just updated my Mu-so and loving it. Tidal sounds a lot netter directly comparing to airplay connection.
Thank you Naim!
Okay so flashed the firmware upgrade to my mu-so to allow native Tidal support, logged in to pre-existing account and hey presto...'can't play - track skipped', or something very similar. What could be the cause for this? Tried from Nexus 7 tablet as well as from HTC One, both supporting latest app update.
I have really been looking forward to this day, someone please guide me to a solution.
Kind regards,
N
Big thanks to the Naim team
Updated to new 1.3 firmware and listening to Tidal on my Mu-So. On the Input Settings under Tidal I see it says install Tidal app - is this needed on my IPad. Seems to be natively built into the Naim app v1.3 - so have left alone - unless doing this opens up more features.
Many thanks Rob D

Hi Nikko,
What tidal account do you have? HiFi or Premium?
If Premium can you try changing the App setting in Setup -> Inputs -> Tidal and check that the play bit rate is set to "High".

Hi Phil,
Thanks for getting back to me. Not entirely sure if I am premium or HiFi but the streaming setting is set to HiFi within tidal app. I presume that you refer to the settings embedded in the Main controller app.
I will give it a go, but ask the question whether the HiFi streaming nitrate can be supported by mu-so?
Thanks again, I will repost if it doesn't work; and if it does.....
Nikko
Okay (a few minutes later)...
Still the same problem (see bottom of screen grab attached), no I can't get an image to attach - no browsing feature.
Well it doesn't seem to be working. Do you have any other ideas as to why the stream can't seem to be established?

Hi Phil,
I have established that I am HiFi subscriber from Tidal. Very keen to get this sorted as you can imaging, everyone is positively effusive with praise for the direct streaming.
I was one of those who took a bit of a punt a while back, based on rumours that had been floating around on the possible hook up with Tidal, and on this basis subscribed at the beginning of this year.
I have been firing it up to the Mu-so over Bluetooth which I appreciate isn't so dandy, but always been convinced by the quality through the cans and am desperate to get it going.
Hopefully it's not going to be too troublesome. I eagely await some news on how to resolve it.
Thanks, Nikko
Successfully updated.. One very small point it still says "UPDATE AVAILABLE" even though the version is showing as 1.3.00

Hi Nikko,
So you have a HiFi account - in that case your quality should be set to "HiFi" - can you confirm that it is?
Do you have any issues with internet radio and / or Spotify Connect?
Cheers
Phil
Tidal preferences says HiFi is only available with Chrome, I get two options with 320Kbs as the highest quality in Safari.
Unless I'm missing something.
Set to HiFi as per subscription... Spotify connect works fine but I find that I tend to connect through their app, but it works through the Naim controller too.
I tried changing the input to different settings under Tidal, but with no joy.

Interesting...
OK - Can I get you to do one more thing for me as a test?
1) In the Naim app Settings -> Input Settings -> TIDAL option, log out of TIDAL and close down the Naim app.
2) Power off your streamer at the wall, leave it 5 minutes (as it's a Mu-so the power supply takes a lot longer to fully discharge than in our normal HiFi kit) then power it back on.
3) Bring up the Naim app again and in the app Settings -> Input Settings -> TIDAL option, log back into TIDAL.
This will force both the app and the Mu-so to re-login to your TIDAL account and resync the settings with TIDAL ...
Let me know whether that works for you...

Phil,
I went through your scenario and no joy unfortunately. It seems very strange. Everyone else is able to use Tidal stream except me. Are there any other reports elsewhere? Also is it that people have taken the free Tidal subscription at the point of updating the Mu-so firmware? As I had an account maybe that is something to do with the problem.
As I said before the error message is 'can't play - track skipped'. Is there a way of directing the stream from within the Tidal app, a bit similar to Spotify?
Nikko
I have an issue with the naim > Tidal experience. I'm using iOS, and tap the Tidal option within the naim App, and am duly directed to the naim page with the redemption code. Tapping the "redeem" option as directed opens a Safari page for tidal.com, but the page is blank (Black).
I have reset the network settings, cleared cache, and amended the Safari settings to allow cookies, all to no avail.
Is anybody else having this issue, or can anyone suggest a solution?
Thanks in Advance
Trevor,
Today looking at Tidal's site if they are available in my country I went to FAQ's where I found the following:
"On which devices can I use TIDAL?
TIDAL works on phones, tablets, computers and a wide range of network players such as Sonos, Bluesound, Linn, Auralic, Mirage, Squeezebox, Amarra, McIntosh, Wadia, Electrocompaniet, Meridian and Lode."
May be you are interested in having a mention here.
Regards.
Erich
