Naim Fraim

For classic series components, whats the norm for shelf spacing; standard or medium? I only have 3 components and as such need a bit of height without it lookng ridiculous. I am thinking medium?
Whats the difference between 'levlel height' and 'available height (per level)?
My local dealer doesn't stock this rack hence the initial forum query.
Thoughts and photos very welcome.
Thank you,
Stu.
Ok I use three stage Naim stack as one of my stacks. I have a large stage with a small stage on top. I have put my PSU on the bottom and it has provided a good physical separation to my more sensitive sources. Also helps with bundy cable lengths etc.
Thank you Simon. Could you post a pic?
No probs if not.

If it were me I'd go for two medium levels, rather than a tall and a standard. If you used the rack as in Simon's picture you would end up with a powered box very close to the 272. Two mediums would give you some distance between the 272 and the XPS or 250, and will therefore sound quite a bit better.
To me having the Naim boxes with the controls so close to the floor is something I don't accept, its fine with a four or five box system when the pwr amps & PSU's can fill the lower shelves. But it would be nice for those peeps with one, two or three boxes, if Naim or someone made a matching box suitably "tuned" to be inert as a Fraim raising system & bring the control units up from the floor.

Mike, one of the good things about the 272, XPS, 250 setup that Stu and I both have is that the lower two boxes have no controls, so everything is on the 272, which goes at the top. The volume knob is therefore within easy reach, even though it's only about 20 inches or so off the floor. A Fraim with two medium levels should work fine, and look good too.
Not disagreeing HH, but even so I'm surprised an extender box hasn't been thought of.
A disabled friend has recently sold his all olive 5 or 6 box system in a 1980's metal rack & gone to SuperUniti. Its perched on a stylist & expensive elm cabinet so he can reach it - too low & he can't get to it. He would dearly love a Fraim, but no way is he prepared to have that marking his cabinet top, plus he is sure sitting on a cabinet would kill the Fraim SQ gains & the woods wouldn't match.
He is surfing the webosphere for something that inspires at the mo.

I've used an Atacama Nexus 5i speaker stand with a home-made wooden top-plate, onto which I place a low bamboo shelf with the SU on top. It's much better than anything I've bought and tried AV-wise, suprisingly good in fact. I've not ventured into the realm of spending many £100s on supports yet. Not tried Fraim / Hutter / Isowotsit so can't do a direct comparison. But if a way can be found to upcycle a spare speaker support, maybe it would be worth trying?

Perhaps a nice looking wall shelf would fit the bill. Anything designed for a turntable would work with the SuperUniti.
If only HH, we discussed just that, the problem is his house was built around 1750 & the internal walls in his listening room are lathe & plaster & like a 3 dimensional dogs hind leg.
I think he is going with a heavy wood sided 3 glass shelves thing & will populate the shelves with his collectables stuff.
Hmmm, we had a house with lath and plaster walls, so I see the problem. Perhaps just going for a nice sideboard with a Fraim glass and balls would be the most attractive compromise. That's what I'd do - a wood thing with glass shelves sounds distinctly dubious.

Shouldn't need to physically interact with the SU much other than remote and/or tablet, which eases things a bit I'd imagine.

Simon, thanks for the picture. One little question here, is it considered overkill for the small Hugo to sit on top of Fraim? Does it help much? I mean the top shelf could be utilized more by placing Nac252 on it.
Mikapoh, in that set up my 252 preamp sounds best away from my NDX streamer.. in my experience best provide good physical separation between pre and streamer... I don't think they are happy bed fellows, so that setup sounds optimal for me. But others' setups may vary. Yes the Hugo sounds best on that shelf, it may be down to the physical isolation provided for the audio connections etc.
