BBC iRadio programme info

Posted by: Poggy on 11 October 2015

Hi

Apologies if this has been asked before (I couldn't find anything) but I wondered if there was a known reason why the BBC iRadio streams don't display programme info. in the naim app e.g. Artist and track? The others e.g. Radio paradise atleast display some  but I'd have thought that ther was the capacity to display even more than for DAB.

Thanks

Its annoying when a little family run business in the wilds of California can display artist & track, more so when BBC do give the info on DAB.

But I understand the current BBC internet service is going to change again in the near future, maybe they might start providing this data.

I understand it will not affect the HLS service, but its not really clear as a lot of the BBC info & blog stuff is well out of date.   At present the service is available in HLS & HDS (AAC codec). They say "by the summer" its hoped to have these streams available in DASH format.  Then in another place they say BBC R&D & the industry is working to define an agreed configuration for MPEG DASH in addition to HLS/AAC "as soon as possible".

So I guess it might happen sometime, but don't hold yer breath

We get what we pay for! Like the OP I find not having it a nuisance

BBC runs 5 TV stations, infinite music and local radio (including hifi), as good an information website as anyone in the world, a World Service, all services free for oldies in the UK, etc etc and all for £145 pa for those of us in the UK and nothing for those abroad.  Meanwhile Tidal charges twice that just for pop music, Sky charges 10 times that for its woeful American TV and (good) sport.  And some of these outfits pay little or no tax

Add £5 to the licence fee and I'm sure BBC would stream artcist info. But Cameron, Whittingdale (the Minister for Murdoch), the Daily Heil, the Sun et al (none who have an interest of course) still moan on.  That's probably why we shall have to wait.  This is not high priority
