Nac252 into a non naim poweramp

Posted by: Knipester on 12 October 2015

hi could anyone tell me if I'd cause any damage plugging my nac252 into a bryston 4bsst2 using the supplied din to xlr cables?

As far as I can see the Bryston doesn't have any DIN input and the NAC252, as far as I'm aware, has no balanced outputs.

So if you want to connect the 252 to the Bryston you will need 2 Din (for the uotput of the 252) to RCA (for the input of the Bryston) cables.

Don't use the DIN to Cannon XLR leads on the Bryston.  The Naim connections and leads are single-ended.  The Bryston XLR inputs are balanced. Use the Byston's single-ended inputs on RCA phono.

Thanks all I think I'll stay well clear of this idea then!

What to do then if the amp, ARC Ref 110 or 150, has only balanced inputs?

Simple- don't pair it with a Naim preamp.

There are balanced to unbalanced converter boxes but I never tried one so can't say anything about the sound quality

I normally steer clear of dismissing other brands of equipment but having recently heard a mega expensive Bryston based system and the new NAP 250/300 DRs..................urm..........

I use a chord signature tuned aray 4 pin din to rca to connect my 252 to a McIntosh MC452 power amp. It works, sounds pretty good, but I've tried a 250.2 in the same system and the 252 partnered with 250.2 sounds better. The McIntosh sounds better partnered with its own preamp.
