Original spec; IBL

Posted by: Efraim roots on 12 October 2015

Hello!

I need your help as I really want an original pair of IBLs, I have got two pairs but both was modified by previous owners (stop ruin classics!!). Since these speakers are so rare in my parts of the globe my way become to restore at least on of the pairs into all original spec, using best parts from both. I goes quite well I think but I wonder about one thing and really hope someone here could help me.

What kind of dampening is original spec in IBLs mk1 bassdriver box (box that sites the driver)?

I know that when you bought the upgrade kit for IBL with the new bass driver you got two pieces of "grey reticulated foam" for each speaker to put in the box, these replaced whatever that was in there before, according to the upgrading instructions. I have IBL mk1 and really want to know what dampening was original spec for my speakers. Please help me preserve the Naim legacy

I can't answer your question but I've just looked at your profile and am in awe of your front end first amplification. Good to see.

Best,

C.

It's quite fantastic really but for me it's also the best "bang for buck" amplification I know of. I actually owned two different olive 250's and also had a new style NAP 200 at home for a weekend, and the conclusion was that NAP110 is both special (I'm fond of it, and so was the previous owner even though he had several Naim amps) and objektivley actually very good (not better, but not much after really).

Efraim,

I cannot recall but a call or e-mail to Steve Hopkins should give you the answer.  I'm sure he can have a word with some of the old hands (with apologies to Mike and Clive) in the speaker dept who built IBLs back in the day.

And as for your love of the NAP110, I can quite understand...
