Improvements from Adding NAP 100 to Unitiqute?

Posted by: Richy on 12 October 2015

Evening all,

I run a very small / simple system in our lounge comprising of the Unitiqute 2, Chord Odysey speaker cable and Neat Iota speakers.  It produces a lovely musical sound with good detail, but lately I've been wanting more drive and bass presence.  I appreciate that the speakers aren't going to give much of that, but might a NAP100 help??  What sort of improvement might the NAP100 bring?

Secondly, is anyone running a qute and NAP100 with good effect on more expensive speakers like say the PMC twenty.21 for example??

Try entering Qute nap 100 into the search bar......

UQ2 is not the issue, it is the speakers. I auditioned Iotas and Guru Juniors when I had a UQ2. The Juniors won by a country mile. The amount of bass from such a small box was astonishing.

Also, others have said that the UQ loses some musicality when connected to a NAP100.

Juniors are very, very hard to come by (no you cannot have mine) but there is meant to be a relaunch later this year after some well documented production issues.

Regards

Thanks for telling me how to use the Internet.  Surprisingly I've tried that and didn't find a lot of specific info, mostlay people talking about the DAC V1 with NAP, or asking a similaR question with little response..... Hence my question.

Thanks, I had considered the juniors but got a v good deal on the Iotas at the time so I went for them.  some reviews of the Iotas say that the bass is astonishing for their size too, but I'm not getting That so wondering where you money might be best spent.  Obviously I can do demos but I like to get a feel for people's thoughts online first.  Thanks

I added a NAP100 to my Qute2...I think that the addition adds 'more everything' to the equation.

I also auditioned the Neat Iotas with my Qute (before the NAP 100 was added).  While I agree that the bass is remarkable for their size....in total the bass was far less than what I wanted.  I went with Dynaudio Excite X12's.  Nothing you can do will turn the Iotas into what they are not, I am afraid.

I suspect that a NAP100 would add very little to the Qute driving the Neat Iotas; they are quite undemanding I believe.

He means the search bar on this site, and there must be quite a bit in this forum alone (as you would expect!) I feature in a few (most) and am on record as saying it gives a bit but takes a bit. I would not expect the NAP to make the 'difference' you are after. Badlyread's comments I would agree with here.

I agree with the advice above, having once owned a Qute 2 with Guru Juniors and then later adding a Nap100.  I suspect you will get more of what you are looking for by changing your speakers than by adding the Nap100.  the amp gives more of everything but there is only so much bass and presence you can get from such a small box, even if it is a damned good box.  The Juniors are very musical and have excellent bass, again for the size, but you will struggle to get a set - when I sold mine my dealer shifted them for me in a matter of days for a price that wasn't far off what I paid because they were so in demand.  There are other good speakers around with great bass that I'd suggest you audition before the amp

Thought about a sub for the iotas?

For me, adding the NAP 100 to my UNITIQUTE resulted in...

PROS:

    - more "dense" sound

    - see/hear deeper in the mix

    - liked the look of the NAP100/QUTE stacked on top of each other

CONS:

    - made me wonder if I should by expensive interconnects

    - distracted by thoughts of  "should get a NAP200, 250.2, etc"

Overall, it was fun exploring what the NAP100 brought to the table... then I sold it.

Hope this is helpful!

I'm wondering the same thing. I have a UQ2, K20 cable hooked up to a pair of new Neat Motive SX3s.

I went against conventional wisdom when auditioning the speakers, in that the dealer I got them from had everything hooked up to a Cyrus kit, and I auditioned some PMC DB1 Golds, the Neats, and a pair of Totems (I forget the model but it was whichever is in the same ~£1000 ballpark). The Neats were far and away the better pair (to my ears) so thats what we left with.

I love my UQ2, but can't help thinking there's either restraint or a struggle in my system. I am going to hope when I'm ready that I can home audition the NAP 100 to make sure it's worth it.

(fwiw, i have zero problems with bass. It's there, and it's tight).

Hi.

I have a UQ2/NAP 100 linked to a pair of Kudos X2 and love the sound. I think it was hard to describe what the NAP 100 brought, but as someone said just a little bit more of everything. I am very happy with the combination. I also run my LP12 Majik/stageline N through it and at the moment very happy. I am sure I could get better with spending more money, but at this time very happy and would rather spend the money on more music.

I had exactly the same question in mind. In your current setting, I will try a sub first before I worry about changing anything else. The iota are superb especially if you help them sing in the frequency where they should sing. I have heard what a subwoofer did to lots of speakers and it was amazing.
I heard the nap100 with uq2 and even if there was a subtle change, it wasn't night and day plus changed the character of the qute sound. In short, I may be tempted if second hand but suddenly the nap200 is looking attractive (the problem is that it spoils the nice shoe box size)
In short, try a sub and despite what other may say, I recommend a kef ls50 (special discount available until end of this month). Or better, keep your wonderful iota and buy a good sub. You will be very surprised how the whole thing will sound...

i added a cheap monitor audio sub (vector) to my iotas (which are splendid speakers), it added the extra bass depth.
