Adding a NAP to a UnitiLite

Posted by: wrc on 13 October 2015

Hello all,

This seems like a recurring question on the forums but I can't find much information specifically around adding a NAP to a UnitiLite and the sonic benefits.

I recently sold some old kit and I have modest budget for an upgrade so I'm thinking of buying a used NAP 150x or maybe, at a stretch, a used 155 XS.  Would this be a worthwhile upgrade?

Much appreciated.

Had a similar dilemma a few weeks back. Had a Ulite which for me doesn't quite hit the mark in terms of outright power. I listen loud when possible

Was going to add a used 150X to the equation but managed to find NOS 172XS for £995 and found a used 155XS in immaculate boxed condition for £450 - was my lucky week :-)) Although my Ulite was only weeks old I bought it as a factory refurb for £1295, which I sold for £820.

Point is unless the CD tray is of use, you could get a 172/155 combo for not much more than adding a poweramp to a Ulite if you shop around (I bought from authorised Naim dealers via ebay). The swap only cost me £625 +PP which considering the total improvement is a substantial one, was for very little outlay.

You might well get a used 200 for a decent price as there are more of them around. Whatever you get, if it's old you might need to budget for a service at some stage, but that should be reflected in the price.

Thanks for the replies.

Spacey, that's a very good suggestion and one I'm keen to replicate but I have a feeling it might be difficult finding another 155 for the same as what you paid. Really good deal you got there! I'll be keeping a close eye on eBay listings.

No worries, hope you find something of interest.

I was lucky that week IMHO, but you should be able to find a mint 155XS for £500-600.

The 172/155 combo RRPs at £3200...

Moderated Post:  I've removed details of kit for sale as per forum rules.

Just to follow up on my original post...

I ended up buying a NAP 150x for my UL (for only £300!) and hooked it up last night.  The difference it makes is amazing.  I thought the UL sounded good on its own but this is a definite step up in performance across the board.  Extremely chuffed with the result.

just imagine what a 200 might do

Don't remind me.  It's all I've been thinking about since!  Definitely next on my list but for now I'll enjoy the music.

i had a 150x, going to a 200 was so much better. If your happy with what you have stick with it.
